Through the magic of social media, Josh and I first connected. For our first date, we went to see a movie. If you ask Josh, he’ll tell you he rented out the entire theater just for us. Personally, I think we just got lucky on a random Friday afternoon, but his version is a lot more romantic, so we’ll go with that. After that, we spent just about every weekend together. There were surprise dates, concerts, dinners (Josh’s home-cooked meals will always be my favorite), and road trips to Austin, Dallas, and anywhere else we could find an excuse to explore. Some of our favorite days in the Central Texas heat were spent floating the river, paddleboarding on the lake, and attempting to grow our own garden. A few months later, Josh left for deployment. We spent many, many hours on FaceTime, doing everything we could to stay connected and not miss the big moments: graduations, holidays, and even the little day-to-day parts of life. Then, 265 days later, Josh finally came home. I was lucky enough to be the first one there to greet him when he stepped off the bus—a moment I’ll never forget. Not long after that, Josh received news that he would be transferring duty stations. So we packed up and made the 17-hour drive to the East Coast, where we now call Savannah, Georgia home. These days, our favorite weekend activity is going to the beach and finding new fishing spots. One night, Josh planned a surprise date in downtown Savannah. What I thought was just a beautiful night out turned into something even more special—because that’s where he asked me to marry him.
