It’s hard to say exactly when we first met—we’d been hanging out with the same group of friends for so long that it all kind of blends together. We spent time at casual get-togethers, never knowing what the future had in store for us. By 2021, we found ourselves spending more and more time together, and things began to shift. I still remember the moment it all clicked. We were hanging out at Kenzie and Caleb’s house, and Jon walked in—beard, hat, the whole look—and I caught myself thinking, “Okay, he’s kinda cute.” Of course, I kept that to myself. A few days later, I was sitting in the Davis’ living room when Caleb came around the corner with a smirk and asked, “So, what about my boy Jon?” I was totally confused and just said, “Uh, what about him?” But Caleb’s smirk told me everything. From there, our friends turned into full-blown matchmakers, and before long, we were texting nonstop. Eventually, Jon asked me out on our first date—to Texas Roadhouse, naturally. Things moved quickly after that. I met his parents, he met mine, and on September 15, 2021, we officially started dating. We’ve been inseparable ever since.
Many evenings were spent with my phone cast to the TV as I scrolled through engagement ring sites, hunting for the perfect one. By February 2024, the ring was finally purchased. Then came the conversation with my dad on March 8, 2024. Jonathon already knew he wanted to propose during our trip to Texas, but the big question was how. That decision became easy when I asked if we could schedule a couple’s photo shoot at the Magnolia Silos in Waco, TX. For months, I was buzzing with anticipation for the trip. It was our first real vacation together, just the two of us, and I knew it would be amazing—whether or not there was an engagement. Still, there were subtle hints that made me suspicious. I had a gut feeling it might happen. So, I made sure our outfits matched, had my nails done, and waited… The shoot was supposed to happen at 7:00 a.m., but after a long travel day, we dragged ourselves out of bed early to get ready. Then, we ran into a snag—the location wasn’t open yet. So, plans had to shift. We changed back into casual clothes, Jonathon re-hid the ring, and we went to grab breakfast. And let me tell you, Magnolia Table delivered the best breakfast I’ve ever had. Afterward, we got dressed again, Jonathon re-hid the ring (again), and we headed to the Silos. As soon as the grounds opened, we made a beeline for the church—the one I’d mentioned so many times as the spot I wanted pictures. We started with a few casual shots, and then came the classic back-to-back pose. My heart was racing. When I turned around, there he was—on one knee, holding the ring. “Will you marry me?”. Many, many tears were shed.
We have lived together since May of 2022. In November of 2022, we added our favorite good boy, Duke, a miniature schnauzer, to the family, and he’s been a bundle of love and energy. Jonathon and I both love collecting vinyl records, and we are huge foodies—whether we’re trying out new recipes at home or discovering new restaurants. When we travel, we are always looking for a new vinyl record shop (and/or retro game store *eye roll*), and a Torchy's Tacos. Fun fact - Torchy's is the first meal we had after being engaged. (We will never pass up a Trailer Park Taco (make it Trashy), or Baja Shrimp Taco.) Thankfully, most of our friends are mutual. Our time spent with them is always so much fun! We have several nieces and nephews, both by blood and through friendships, and we love them more than the world!
