How we met

A tale of two cities....

Ours is a tale of two cities, or in this case, two Delta Airlines Hubs, Atlanta and Boston. Patty and Jon are both widows, and live and work 1124 miles apart. Jon has known Vigen for 40 years from their time in Residency together at the University of Michigan. They have been the very best of friends ever since. Vigen and Jon double-dated their first wives together and were in each others’ weddings many years ago. Vigen unfortunately lost Rosemary to cancer nearly 10 years ago. He found the new love of the rest of his life, Lynda ( they are also now engaged!). Lynda grew up in Minnesota with Patty. They have been best friends since their time as lab partners in high school human anatomy class. Teri and Jon had been blessed to spend time with Lynda and Vigen after they met. Nearly 3 years ago, Jon lost his dear wife Teri, after her 14 year battle with cancer. Jon will never forget that Vigen and Lynda were both sitting in his kitchen in Lynnfield less than 24 hours later. Several months after, Lynda told Jon that “when he was ready to start dating again”, to let her know, because she knew someone who would be "perfect" for him. The next summer, Jon called Lynda and asked about this person she had in mind. She told him about Patty. Jon asked where Patty lived and Lynda said "Atlanta". Long distance is a challenge for any relationship, and we hadn't even met yet! Jon asked Lynda if she had anyone perfect for him in Boston?! But Lynda said again that Patty and Jon would be “perfect for each other” and she wanted us to meet. And Vigen emphasized that Jon had better listen to Lynda! So, Vigen invited Jon to his beach house in Northern Michigan over a Fourth of July weekend, and Lynda invited Patty. Patty and Jon were both not expecting that this would be a probable relationship because of the distance, but each thought that at least any friends of Lynda and Vigen would be fun and we would have a pleasant weekend. And we liked each other. The next weekend Vigen and Lynda were coming to Cape Cod to visit with Lynda's son Will, and invited us both along. And we liked each other a little more....what followed was Patty changing her part time schedule as an occupational therapist in Atlanta to Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday so she could fly on Thursday and spend long weekends. And we liked each other even more. This led to many trips to be together and many flights between Atlanta and Boston. Along the way, early in our journey(s), we realized that we were very much in love. Some of you may know that Petoskey stones are only found in Michigan and are common in the part of Northern Michigan where we first met. Patty wears a love lock pendant with a Petoskey stone heart to remember our first meeting. We have only been apart a few weekends since we met. Not the easiest way to both become Platinum on Delta but here we are! We are so excited and grateful to have found each other and to celebrate our wedding with our family and close friends. Thanks for reading our tale of two strangers in two separate cities 1124 miles apart who first met on a blind date through the wisdom and grace of our great friends, and some help from Delta Airlines. As the sign says, "Every Love Story is Beautiful, but Ours is my Favorite".

Your presence at our wedding is the greatest gift, as we start this next chapter in our lives together. If you feel that you want to give a gift, we would ask that you consider instead donating to one of two organizations that are important to us. Both of our families have been impacted by mental health and by cancer, and we are passionate about supporting the following two organizations: The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) the nations largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for our loved ones affected by mental illness. We will be providing a shuttle to St. Maria Goretti’s church from the Four Points by Sheraton Wakefield, where our wedding block is located. The first shuttle will leave at 1 pm.
