ReceptionReception

5:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Semi-Formal: Tuxes and gowns are welcome, and so are suits and cocktail dresses. Perhaps change out of those stilettos for the reception due to the lawn. Don't forget a bathing suit & towel if you'd like to jump in the pool with the bride and groom later in the evening!

Please note guests who will be staying somewhere in St. Michaels or Tilghman are welcome and encouraged to return to lodging accommodations to freshen up and/or check-in to their rooms between ceremony and reception. Please allow for the courtesy shuttle to bring you to/from your accommodation for reception if you choose in order to better enjoy the evening!

TravelTravel

The nearest airport is Baltimore-Washington International (BWI). There remains a 2 hour drive over the Bay Bridge to the ceremony in Cordova, Maryland (near Easton) and reception on Tilghman Island. Transportation to/from the airport will need to be arranged seperately, but let us know if we can help! Carpool will be an option as many of our family and friends will have personal vehicles and would happily bring a few extra along to and from the church and/or reception. If without a car, see some suggestions in the FAQs about transportation options! And please don't hesitate to reach out to Gretchen or John if you have concerns!

From the moment Gretchen was brought home from the hospital and she said "what's that?"- pointing at the baby bundle in her mom's arms. Little did she know there were many years of weird sister things and unmatched friendship to come. Erica is always down for any adventure either of the sisters cooks up, and has a refined sisterly intuition. Margaret IrelandMargaret Ireland

Bridesmaid

A most wonderful and genuine friend, Gretchen is often saying that everyone needs a Margaret in their life. The type of friend who will show up on your worst day ready to pick you up a million times over and you’ll never doubt that she will be there for you no matter how far away in miles. Margaret and Gretchen met while swimming for Army Women’s Swimming and Diving in 2014 and have been best friends ever since (B-unit forever!). Their friendship has crossed many oceans and time zones while Margaret was deployed to Qatar and Korea during her time in the Army as a 1LT. She is now attending law school at Campbell University in Raleigh, NC- she is NC born and raised! Margaret and her other half, Dr. Jefferey Ord will soon be moving from Raleigh to Brooklyn, NY and are proud cat parents to June, Cheddar, and Lark as well as pup parents to sir Finn the mini German Shepherd.

Julia EnglundJulia Englund

Bridesmaid

Gretchen must have known Julia would be her best friend for life when they met on the first day of Kindergarten! What started as Monday afternoon playdates as 6 year-olds, turned to long walks through their childhood neighborhood in middle and high school. Soon they were off to college and Julia and Gretchen always somehow managed to make time to connect in their friendship birthplace of Northern, VA on school breaks or at least squeeze a FaceTime call between classes, work, and busy schedules. Gretchen and Julia share strong Lutheran faith backgrounds and were confirmed together at Redeemer Lutheran church in McLean, VA when they were 13. Their friendship has stood the test of time, remaining true and timeless through another move and school change as Julia most recently relocated to Nashville, Tennessee where she completed her Doctorate in Audiology and met Paxton Hensley who accompanies her. She is now is practicing at an audiology internship in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Calli gradated from UNC-Chapel Hill and entered the nursing profession as a Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit nurse and now travels the country as a Neuro ICU travel nurse-currently based in Portland, Maine! Calli and Gretchen bond over shared struggles in the world of nursing and Calli remains a bright light in Gretchen’s world, always challenging her to be a more well-rounded nurse and person! When Calli isn't serving on health missions overseas her and Gretchen are always planning their next get-together! This time Calli's globetrotting tendencies had Gretchen attending the Summer 2024 Paris Olympics with her along with a side-trip to Austria.

Alexandra PefettiAlexandra Pefetti

Bridesmaid

Alexandra has been Gretchen’s wing-woman ever since she started nursing school in Charlotte. Alexandra moved in the apartment a few doors down and soon enough, dog-mom acquaintances transcended into to mutual hype girlypops. Alexandra and Gretchen’s friendship blossomed over venting on the apartment gym ellipticals about how stressful nursing school and the working world are. It is not easy moving out of your home state and starting over in a new city, but in meeting Alexandra, Gretchen found an amazing friend and adventure buddy that would stick around through thick and thin. Alexandra and Gretchen have moved each other in and out of several residences throughout Charlotte, care for each other’s pups, and share a love of SUP, rollerblading & biking. Alexandra graduated from the University of Florida with a Master’s of International Business and is an analyst for Paramount Pictures She is escorted by her fiancé Marshall Joiner; they have since moved with their pups- Lucie (Tucker’s girlfriend) and Joplin to Columbia, SC. Alexandra played a huge part in John and Gretchen’s engagement- making sure to take Gretchen for a mani-pedi before he popped the question.

Aaron's hobbies include hiking, biking, and game development. No it is not a coincidence!- Calli and Aaron Brown are brother and sister! The Wedding Website of Gretchen Elizabeth Roesel and John Michael Christy
John and Gretchen have spent several memorable weekends on Maryland's beautiful Eastern Shore visiting Gretchen's parents in Bozman. We are thrilled to celebrate our wedding in this special place, and we're excited that our out-of-town guests will get to experience it. And as for the guests who live nearby or have been before- you know why! We have included some favorite eateries local to St. Michaels, (coffee first because priorities!), but there are more to choose from in the area. Lastly, a couple places to sightsee while you're visiting! If you're into getting the whole the Eastern Shore experience The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum is worth checking out if you have the spare time.

Answer

Our RSVP is all online! The QR code on your invitation will direct you to where you can RSVP on our website in the "RSVP" section. Just use any name that was included on the invitation and you will be able to RSVP additional party members once your party is identified If you have trouble, just let us know :) Kindly RSVP before February 1, 2025.

Question

How do I book an accommodation for the wedding? How do I book an accommodation for the wedding?

Answer

Please see a shortened list of recommended accommodations right here on this website under Travel- including St. Michaels Inn where we have a number of rooms blocked off. If you are traveling by car and need a more budget friendly accommodation, or if you are finding that rooms are scarce- there is also a Days Inn, Quality Inn, etc. located in Easton, MD (closer to the ceremony venue) Please note that Easton is approximately a 45-minute drive from the reception venue, but closer to our ceremony venue (about 15 minutes by car) Airbnb and Vrbo are a great option if you are traveling in a group! Airbnbs and Vrbos in the area typically have a 3-night minimum stay. Most hotel accommodations in St. Michaels and Tilghman require a 2-night minimum stay due to the high traffic in the area at this time of year- so please consider this when booking and budgeting. Other accommodations worth checking out in the St. Michaels/Tilghman area not otherwise mentioned include: -Wildset Hotel -Wades Point Inn On The Bay -Lowes Wharf Marina Inn -George Brooks House Bed & Breakfast -Victoriana Inn -The Parsonage Inn

Question

How can we get around without renting a car?How can we get around without renting a car?

Answer

It is a bit of a challenge, as uber/lyft does not really exist on the Eastern Shore past Easton. Only blue crab and boats. Car travel through rental or personal vehicle is likely the most convenient option. However, carless travel can be done especially with a little planning ahead! We recommend exploring transportation options through: BayRunner Shuttle (410)-912-6000 https://bayrunnershuttle.com and/or Bay Country Taxi & Transportation Company (410)-770-9030 https://www.baycountrytaxi.com And please let John or Gretchen know if you are trying to get around without a car- we can help you navigate options as well as connect you with our lovely friends and family who would love to be able to help carpool so that you can be apart of our wedding weekend.
