OUR STORY

Joey and Joyce’s story starts in the kind of place where everyone *technically* knows everyone: the same small high school, the same hallways, the same familiar faces—yet somehow, they never actually met. Which, honestly, is impressive. In a small school, you usually meet people by accident just from trying to find a working stapler. That changed during Joey’s senior year, when choir took them to perform at Alameda City Hall. After the final note, everyone did that chaotic post-performance shuffle onto the bus—half adrenaline, half “please let me sit down.” Joyce was the last one to board, and there was exactly one seat left. Right next to Joey. Now, Joey was having one of those days where everything feels slightly cursed. Like the universe woke up and chose “minor inconvenience” as a personality trait. But they started talking, and it was one of those conversations that makes you forget you were in a bad mood in the first place. Suddenly the ride felt shorter. The noise faded. Joey’s problems didn’t disappear—he just stopped giving them the microphone. And that’s the thing: nothing dramatic happened. No slow-motion. No choir harmonizing in the background like, *“this is destiny.”* Just two people talking on a bus, and both of them realizing, quietly, “Oh. This is easy.” That one conversation turned into more conversations. Then a real friendship. Then college. Then life. Then—very on brand for them—they eloped after college, because why do something the traditional way when you can do it the “we actually like each other and don’t need a committee” way? They got a dog. (A decision that immediately upgrades your relationship from “romantic” to “co-managers of chaos.”) And over time, what’s made everything work is simple: they genuinely enjoy being around each other. Not just in the highlight reel moments, but in the regular-life ones—errands, long days, inside jokes, the look that says “are we both seeing this right now?” So yes: boy meets girl on a school bus. They talk. They keep talking. They build a life that feels like theirs. And now they’re getting married—this time with all of you there, which is the one traditional thing they’re very happy to do.
