Our Love Story

We dated 35 years ago as teenagers—two kids completely, ridiculously, cartoon‑level head‑over‑heels in love. We roller‑skated like we were training for the Olympics and danced like nobody was watching… even though everyone definitely was. Life, being the dramatic thing it is, sent us off on different adventures. We grew up, tried new paths, pretended to be adults, and somehow never lost contact. They say timing is everything, and apparently “everything” took three and a half decades to get its act together. Then one day, we started joking about that tiny Irish bar where we used to dance our hearts out. One joke turned into a 12‑hour conversation (yes, 12 hours—turns out we still talk like teenagers with unlimited minutes). A few days later we had dinner, looked at each other, and—boom—fell in love all over again. We’ve spent 35 years learning who we are, what we want, and what makes us happy. And the plot twist? We had it right the first time. So now we’re done wasting minutes, hours, or decades. This time, we’re holding on tight… and maybe even dusting off those old roller skates.

Schedule

The Wedding Website of Karen Dove and Jay Padgett
We’re tying the knot at 5:00 PM on 10/15 near the Avista Resort in North Myrtle Beach. Picture soft sand, ocean breeze, and a wooden walkway guiding you right to the spot—very “romantic coastal chic,” minus the formality. There’s a public parking lot close by, so no need to circle like a seagull eyeing French fries. Dress beach casual, and wear shoes you can easily kick off—because nothing says “wedding guest” like toes in the sand. We’ll have a few chairs reserved for family. Everyone else can stand or bring a beach chair if you want to lounge like a pro. The ceremony will be short and sweet—think “beautiful moment,” not “epic saga.” The reception is just a couple of blocks away, totally walkable. If you park in the public lot, you can leave your car there and stroll over with the rest of the sandy‑footed crew. We can’t wait to celebrate with you and soak up the sunshine, the love, and probably a little saltwater.

Travel and Location

Hotel

Avista Resort

300 North Ocean Blvd, North Myrtle Beach, SC
 8432492521

This is the resort where we’ll be staying, and the ceremony will be happening on the beach nearby—so yes, prepare for sand in your shoes and at least one dramatic sunset photo you’ll pretend wasn’t staged. We’ll be there 10/13–10/18, in case you want to sync your vacation with our chaos. If you’re hunting for a place to stay, we grabbed our condo through VRBO, and a bunch of others booked straight through the resort’s website. The area has tons of options, including some pet‑friendly spots—so your dog can also enjoy a much‑needed getaway and judge everyone’s outfits.

Registry

❄️ What I meant to do: Find a simple digital RSVP for our wedding. ❄️ What actually happened: I got snowed in, got bored, and somehow… accidentally built an entire wedding website. Like—full sections, color‑coordinated pages, and a registry I didn’t even know we needed. One minute I’m Googling “easy RSVP,” the next minute it spiraled into digital wedding‑planner madness. So anyway… Welcome to our wedding website. It exists now. I can’t stop it. Please enjoy the RSVP I originally set out to make, along with the 47 extra features I created while procrastinating shoveling the driveway.

Things To Do

The Wedding Website of Karen Dove and Jay Padgett
There is sooooooo much to do in Myrtle that you might actually forget we’re here for a wedding. The ceremony and reception are within walking distance of Main Street in North Myrtle/Crescent Beach—so yes, you can wander from bar to bar without ever needing to remember where you parked. Restaurants, bars, shops… basically an entire obstacle course of distractions to keep you entertained (or mildly unsupervised). Cherry Grove Beach is just a quick drive away, and the Myrtle Beach boardwalk is about 20 minutes out if you’re craving even more chaos, neon lights, or questionable souvenir purchases. In short, there’s absolutely no reason for anyone to be bored. Everyone will find some kind of trouble to get into—intentionally or by accident.
