How We Met

3/8/2020

Jamie was walking home from 2nd street, our local watering hole and she needed some snacks. After grabbing some hot Cheetos from Rite Aid, she took her stroll through the neighborhood to get home. At this same moment Sara was enjoying drinks on the patio with her friends. One of her friends spotted a beautiful woman walking down the street. Sara thought her friends said to grab that girl because she was one of their friends, but once Sara got across the street she realized Jamie wasn’t one of their friends. Awestruck, Sara decided to talk to Jamie anyways. Jamie was also clearly interested, and shared her snack by feeding Sara hot Cheetos. And the rest is history.

Flight

Cancun International Airport (CUN)

Flying into Cancún International Airport (CUN) can be an exciting start to your vacation in Mexico. Here are some key things to know: Airport Size and Location: Cancún International Airport is one of the busiest in Mexico, situated on the Caribbean coast of the Yucatán Peninsula. It serves as a major gateway to the Mexican Caribbean and the Yucatán. Transportation Options: Upon arrival, you have several transportation options, including taxis, private transfers, rental cars, and buses. We highly recommend taking a shuttle from the airport to the hotel. This MUST be booked ahead of time. Be sure to book a round trip. Customs and Immigration: Expect to go through immigration and customs upon arrival. It's a standard process, but queues can be long during peak travel times. Have your travel documents ready and complete any required forms beforehand. Currency Exchange and ATMs: There are currency exchange booths and ATMs at the airport. You will NOT need to exchange currency at the airport. The hotel will take US dollars if needed. You can also exchange money at the hotel if needed for excursions, etc. Time Zone: Cancún operates on Eastern Standard Time (EST). It's important to adjust your watch, especially if you have a connecting flight or transportation arranged. Leaving the Airport: Be cautious with timeshare salespeople or overly insistent taxi drivers who may approach you as you leave the airport.

FAQs

Question

Where is Cancun?

Answer

Cancun is a city in southeast Mexico on the northeast coast of the Yucatán Peninsula in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo. The city is on the Caribbean Sea and is one of Mexico's easternmost points.

Question

What day should we arrive?

Answer

The couple will be arriving Friday October 18th. We suggest either Friday the 18th or Saturday the 19th to make sure you are able to enjoy the weekend to the fullest.

Question

What flight should I take?

Answer

Since it’s an international flight, LAX is the only non-stop airport you can fly from in SoCal.

Question

Once in Cancun, how do I get to and from the airport?

Answer

We recommend booking a shuttle service to and from the airport and hotel. See the travel tab of this website for more details. When you arrive at the airport ONLY use the shuttle service you booked. Do NOT go with anyone who cannot show you proof of reservation. We do not recommend waiting until you arrive at the airport to book car service to the hotel.

Question

Do I need to stay at Live Aqua? Can I stay elsewhere?

Answer

We understand that staying at the hotel is a financial consideration for our guests. Therefore, we have secured a discounted room block through Live Aqua. To attend the wedding on the Live Aqua premises, you must also be a guest of the hotel. So if you were to choose to stay at a different location, you would unfortunately not have access to Live Aqua for the wedding or festivities.

Question

How do we book our stay at Live Aqua Cancun?

Answer

We have a discount code for you to use for your reservation at Live Aqua. Please visit the "Travel" tab of this website for more information about booking your stay. There you will locate the phone and email address contact information and booking code.

Question

Are tips expected at Live Aqua?

Answer

At Live Aqua Beach Resort Cancún, tipping is appreciated but not compulsory. Service staff such as housekeepers, waiters, bartenders, and bellhops often receive tips for excellent service, despite the all-inclusive nature of the resort. A common practice is to tip a few dollars per day for housekeeping and a dollar or two per meal or drink. For more personalized services like those at the spa, a larger tip may be suitable. Both Mexican Pesos and US Dollars are accepted for tips, and it's helpful to keep small bills on hand for convenience. We suggest coming to Cancun with small US Dollar so that you do not need to do a currency exchange when you arrive.

Question

What should I know about using US dollars and exchanging currency for my trip to Mexico?

Answer

While US dollars are accepted in many tourist areas, you'll often get better value by using Mexican Pesos, especially for small purchases and tipping. Consider exchanging some currency to Pesos either before travel or at local banks in Mexico, and remember that credit/debit cards are widely accepted, though it's wise to check with your bank about any foreign transaction fees. ATMs are a convenient option for withdrawing Pesos, but be aware of potential fees from both the Mexican and your home bank.

Question

Do I need to exchange my US dollars to pesos?

Answer

You can use a currency exchange if you would like, but most services in Cancun will take US Dollars. The Happy Couple encourage everyone to have some US Dollars on hand for tipping. Additionally, most services in Cancun will also accept credit or debit cards. Taxis are sometimes an exception to this, but for more information on taxis please see the next question.

Question

How do I get around town?

Answer

We certainly encourage everyone to explore Cancun during their stay! If you choose to leave the Live Aqua property, the staff will call you a taxi to get wherever you need to go. Before accepting the taxi, we encourage you to verify that the taxi accepts credit card (if that's how you are choosing to pay) and ask how much the ride will cost. If you venture elsewhere in Cancun, please inquire with the staff at Live Aqua about how to get back to the property before you leave it.

Question

What is the dress code?

Answer

Welcome Cocktail at Egos Bar: Dress in "Beach Chic" attire. Opt for casual, vacation-style outfits, like lightweight and breezy fabrics. Shorts are preferred over dress pants, and shoes are optional! Ceremony & Reception: "Resort Cocktail" attire is requested. For dress-wearing guests, choose breezy fabrics in lighter colors; for suit-wearing guests, go for linen or other light fabrics in pants and a jacket – ties are not necessary. Remember, the ceremony is on the beach (sand-friendly footwear advised) and the reception is on the pool deck.

Question

When is the RSVP deadline?

Answer

Please RSVP by June 15th, so we can have an accurate headcount.

Question

What will the weather be like?

Answer

October in Cancun can be between the high 80’s and low 70’s but is also the monsoon season so we may see some warm showers here and there.

Question

I have a food allergy and/on dietary restriction. Can I make a special request?

Answer

Absolutely. Please let the Brides know of any allergies or dietary restrictions. Please email them at jamiecavenee@gmail.com when you RSVP and they would more than happy to accommodate.

Question

When should I book the hotel?

Answer

You can book the hotel anytime between now and August 1, 2024. After August 1 you will no longer be able to apply our discount code to your reservation. See the "travel" tab to see how to book your reservation and get our discount code.
