Nico and I have one of those stories that feels like it was always meant to happen. We first crossed paths back in 2012/13 at Whittier College, where we were both transfer students. I was a Peer Mentor, helping new transfers settle in. Nico was assigned as my mentee. From the moment I met Nico, there was something about him that just clicked. It was like the universe whispered, “Pay attention, this one’s special.” But funny enough, we didn’t start dating until after graduation! Fast forward to today, we’ve been in this incredible partnership for seven years. And when I say incredible, I mean it. Our journey together has been filled with love, loss, new beginnings, and everything in between. We’ve supported each other in ways that have made our bond stronger with each passing year. I stood by Nico as he went through the Police Academy, and he was there cheering me on while I worked toward my Master’s degree. When he transitioned out of law enforcement and into the mental health field, I was his rock, and as I embarked on my doctoral dissertation and defense, he was mine. It’s been this beautiful dance of give and take, of lifting each other up, always with love and respect at the core. What’s been so magical is that our relationship is built on more than just being there for one another. It’s rooted in this deep, mutual respect for who we are as individuals—our growth, our dreams, and our authentic selves. With Nico, I’ve found the kind of love I always believed I deserved—the kind that pushes you to be your best self, supports you through the hard times, and celebrates every victory, big or small. I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect partner on this wild, beautiful journey of life.
