We met through a mutual best friend who also happens to be a distant cousin of Erica’s. It was one of those small world moments that ended up meaning everything. What started as a friendship through a shared friend group quickly turned into something more once we began spending time together, just the two of us. It didn’t take long to realize that what we had was something rare. Our first date was simple, but unforgettable. Josh had written a note ahead of time and tucked it into the center console of his car, planning to give it to Erica if the night went well. After an evening of dinner and bowling at Pin Station, in the bowling alley parking lot Josh pulled out the note and asked Erica to be his girlfriend. Life was messy for both of us at the time and the timing was far from ideal, but we knew it was something worth taking a chance on. Since then, we’ve built a life full of the little moments that matter most. We’ve spent countless hours having thoughtful car conversations on road trips, playing video games together, adventuring to new places, trying new cuisines, dancing under festival lights at Bonnaroo, and hanging out at local card shops while Josh plays Yu-Gi-Oh and Erica cheers him on. We’ve made each other laugh in the weirdest ways, shared quiet nights at home with our pets, and always found comfort in each other’s company. Toby, Erica’s dog before we met, quickly claimed Josh as one of his favorite people. Later, we adopted Mojito together, who brought some extra chaos and even more love into our world. Josh proposed during a sunrise walk on the beach during our fourth anniversary trip. The ring he had ordered didn’t make it in time, thanks in part to Erica changing her mind about what she wanted after he had (unbeknownst to her) already ordered a ring. Awkwardly and not a bit inconspicuously, Josh slipped a ring off Erica’s hand- one he had given her years earlier, and used it to propose. The real ring arrived later, and it was everything Erica had imagined. We love each other for a million reasons. Our friendship. Our weird humor. Our ability to grow and figure out the hardest things in life together. Loving each other has always felt like the easiest thing in the world. When Erica was asked to choose one word to describe Josh, she said 'soulmate.' When Josh was asked to choose one word to describe Erica, he said 'home.' Now we’re counting down the days until we get to celebrate everything we’ve built with the people who mean the most to us. We can’t wait to laugh, cry, dance, and make even more memories with everyone we love right there with us.
We love your kiddos, but this night is just for the adults! We are having a 21+ only wedding. We hope you can join us for some well-earned grown-up fun!
We’d love to celebrate with everyone, but due to space limitations, we’re only able to accommodate the guests listed on the invitation. Thank you for understanding!
We're going for a garden party vibe, so wear something fun, bright, and colorful. Think vibrant prints, flowy dresses, jumpsuits, or even a colorful suit! Don't be afraid to stand out, we want color everywhere! Gentlemen, no jeans, please. Ladies, have fun with your outfit, but kindly avoid wearing white shades. The family and bridal party will be wearing purple. Inspiration: https://pin.it/4B30hTYoM
We’ll have an open bar with beer and wine! Please note: per venue rules, outside alcohol (including flasks) is absolutely prohibited, and if found we will be forced to vacate the premises immediately. We promise there will be plenty of drinks to keep the celebration going, just bring your good vibes and some cash if you'd like to tip the bartender!
Before or after the ceremony, feel free to roam the gardens and snap away! We’re having an unplugged ceremony, which means we kindly ask guests to silence or turn off phones and refrain from taking photos or videos during this time. We’ve hired amazing photographers and videographers to capture the moment, and we’d love for everyone to be fully present with us (and not accidentally photobomb our professional shots with your phone!).
A catered meal will be provided, with clearly labeled ingredients and allergens so guests can choose options that work best for them. The menu was thoughtfully planned with food allergies, vegetarian and vegan guests, and a variety of other dietary preferences in mind, and the same care has been taken with the hors d’oeuvres and desserts.
The ceremony and cocktail hour will be outdoors while the reception will be indoors. Please visit our photo gallery to view a map of the garden grounds.
Late May in Kernersville is usually warm and lovely with highs in the upper 70s, and cooler evenings in the upper 50s. There’s a small chance of a light shower, but fingers crossed for sunshine. We recommend dressing in layers so you’re comfy all day, and maybe bringing a light jacket or shawl for the evening just in case. If you're the plan-ahead type, a small umbrella wouldn’t hurt either.
We kindly ask that guests arrive 15 to 30 minutes before the ceremony to allow plenty of time for parking and finding your seat. We want everyone to be settled and ready to enjoy the moment with us. Please do not arrive any sooner than 30 minutes before ceremony time. A schedule of events will be posted closer to the big day with exact times!
Yes. There is parking available on-site, and if overflow parking is needed, there is an additional lot next to the garden on S Main St in between Oakhurst St and Harmon Ln. A sidewalk path parallel with S Main St leads directly from this lot to the venue.
The ceremony and reception are on the same property, and short distances from each other. There are stairs and wheelchair accessible ramps in between the locations. Some parts of the gardens are not wheelchair accessible.
The Paul J. Ciener Botanical Gardens does have expectations while events are being held on the property. Picking of flowers, stems, berries, leaves or stepping inside display beds is strictly prohibited. There is no smoking allowed in the gardens or in the reception area, but there is a designated smoking spot at the venue (that isn't far away from everything!). Outside alcohol (not served by a licensed bartender) is prohibited and will cause the wedding to be shut down. Unruly guests or anyone breaking rules of the gardens will be required to leave the premises and may be subject to damage fees. Animals are prohibited with the exception of Service animals. Anything left at the venue after the wedding will be discarded or donated by the venue.
For any questions or concerns, please feel free to text Erica at 828-962-8853 or Josh at 336-813-8679.
