Alexis McLean and Jacques Colkley’s story began in April 2016 at a kid’s birthday party—one that neither of them was even sure they were going to attend. Hosted at Lauriol Plaza in Washington, D.C., a restaurant known for its delicious Mexican cuisine and festive drinks, both arrived without their kids and with no expectations, unaware that a near skip would turn into something life-changing. When Alexis arrived, she noticed Jacques walk in wearing a fitted white T-shirt that highlighted his muscular physique and instantly caught her attention—along with his great smile and nice teeth. Her first thought? “Man, he’s handsome—and those muscles!” A friend introduced them, and although they didn’t get much time to talk during the party, the connection was undeniable. Later that evening at the after-party, they finally had the chance to talk—sharing laughs, stories about their kids, and getting to know one another until Jacques had to leave for work. Breaking the “don’t text the same day” rule, Alexis reached out that night to thank him for a great time. That simple message set the tone for what followed—honest, intentional, and rooted in genuine connection. As they continued dating, they talked on the phone every day, saw each other several times a week, and showed up for one another during difficult seasons in each other’s lives. Jacques was drawn to Alexis’s personality and her famously corny sense of humor (plus her love for sautéed onions and extra sauce). With Jacques, Alexis could be fully herself. She supported his two boys (Jaques & Jair), and Jacques embraced Alexis’s daughter, Niya, and son, Kairi. Together, they formed a beautifully blended family. After moving in together in April 2019, they welcomed their daughter, Jael, just a month later in May—making their family even sweeter. Life together has been filled with travel, cooking, hosting friends, cheering at their kids’ activities, dressing up for themed events, and restaurant hopping. As true foodies, Jacques is Alexis’s biggest supporter in the kitchen—and her toughest critic—but luckily, he loves her cooking. On October 8, 2024, Jacques planned a proposal that reflected everything they value. After dinner at the Four Seasons in Georgetown, he led Alexis to the waterfront, where he dropped to one knee as their children watched, a photographer captured the moment, boaters cheered nearby, and loved ones joined on Zoom. On July 30, 2025, the two officially said “I do” in an intimate courthouse ceremony in Howard County, Maryland, followed by a celebratory luncheon with family and friends dressed in joyful summer colors—marking part one of their marriage. After nearly ten years together, very little has changed—except Alexis’s last name. Their love and partnership have always been strong; marriage simply made official what they’d been building all along. Part two continues on July 30, 2026, when they’ll celebrate their one-year anniversary—and their union—on the beautiful island of Curaçao, turning their milestone into a shared vacation with loved ones. What began as an almost-missed party turned into a lifetime of love, family, and celebration—and they couldn’t be more excited for what’s ahead. They often say that their greatest achievement isn’t a single moment, but the everyday rhythm of choosing each other—supporting dreams, navigating challenges, laughing loudly, dancing in kitchens, and raising their children in a home filled with warmth and possibility. From spontaneous trips to quiet nights in, from family milestones to simple conversations that stretch late into the evening, Alexis and Jacques continue to build a life grounded in trust, joy, and deep friendship. Curaçao feels like the perfect place to toast the past decade and step confidently into everything the future holds, hand in hand, surrounded by the people who have loved and supported them from the very beginning. Here’s to love, legacy, and the next beautiful chapter ahead!

Our Engagement On October 8, 2024, Jaques planned a proposal that reflected everything they value—love, family, and intention. He took Alexis to dinner at the Four Seasons in Georgetown and then insisted on showing her a “really pretty spot” by the water. As they walked onto the pier, Jacques pointed out the view, and when Alexis turned back around, he was down on one knee with the ring. Their children were there to witness the moment, a photographer captured it all, nearby boaters cheered in celebration, and loved ones joined via Zoom—making it a joyful, unforgettable memory they will cherish forever.
