Alexis McLean and Jacques Colkley’s story began in April 2016 at a kid’s birthday party—one that neither of them was even sure they were going to attend. Hosted at Lauriol Plaza in Washington, D.C., a restaurant known for its delicious Mexican cuisine and festive drinks, both arrived without their kids and with no expectations, unaware that a near skip would turn into something life-changing. When Alexis arrived, she noticed Jacques walk in wearing a fitted white T-shirt that highlighted his muscular physique and instantly caught her attention—along with his great smile and nice teeth. Her first thought? “Man, he’s handsome—and those muscles!” A friend introduced them, and although they didn’t get much time to talk during the party, the connection was undeniable. Later that evening at the after-party, they finally had the chance to talk—sharing laughs, stories about their kids, and getting to know one another until Jacques had to leave for work. Breaking the “don’t text the same day” rule, Alexis reached out that night to thank him for a great time. After nearly ten years together, very little has changed—except Alexis’s last name. Their love and partnership have always been strong; marriage simply made official what they’d been building all along. Part two continues on July 30, 2026, when they’ll celebrate their one-year anniversary—and their union—on the beautiful island of Curaçao, turning their milestone into a shared vacation with loved ones.
