The Orisha are forces of nature (parts of god) who mediate between Olodumare (God) and humanity. Lucumi Santeria is an ATR = African Traditional Religion, and the tradition to which I will be crowning (becoming a priest). In the Orisha tradition, Iyawo means "bride of the orisha". I am happy to announce that I'm on my way to becoming an Iyawo. The Orisha to which I will be initiating is Obatala. Obatala is seen as the supreme deity of the Orisha pantheon. Obatala is the Orisha who created all the people on the earth. He is also the Orisha who is seen as most benevolent, most wise and of the highest ethical standards. Obatala is often depicted as on older white haired male figure. The white hair symbolizes Obatala's wisdom and his experience as one of the first Orishas on earth. He is known to bring peace and clarity of thought.

This day I am brought to the Church to be blessed and make my own prayers as a new priest. I will be making prayers in a Catholic church, in honor of the Saints and Orisha. To celebrate the end of my ceremonies, we will be having an Orisha party featuring Oya/an Oya Dancer. These drumming parties are to celebrate the Madrina (Spiritual Godmother's Crown/Priesthood). My Madrina (Godmother) is a priest of Oya. There will be dancing, and music, and singing. We will also get a visit from Oya through the mediumship of the dancer. This simply means, she will dance and be given messages for those who are gathered. The Aña Drumming confirms and seals the Kariocha ceremony. The Aña talks to the Ori or "head," refers to one's spiritual intuition destiny. Priests have a distinct connection with the Ori and drum (Aña). **You Can Attend this Event If Desired - RSVP to Confirm**
