A perfect description would be "love at first sight," though neither of us made a move at first. Surulere Stadium became our "Garden of Eden" the place where our paths first crossed. Israel: I remember the day I saw her walk into our gathering, a new member of our group. She was so beautiful, with an innocent look that drew me in. At that moment, I just knew she was the one for me. All I asked was her name. Somehow, I believed that if the universe wanted us to be, our paths would cross again. Ibukunmi: I came to Surulere with a dream, to become part of the filmmaking community, it safe to say I left Surulere with someone's heart . As I walked in, I couldn’t help but notice this guy standing among a group of men. Our eyes locked for a moment, but I quickly took my mind off him. I was only 19, what did I know about relationship? He is cute, but I told myself he was definitely a ladies' man. After the meeting, he walked up to me and asked for my name. I laughed and told him, "Ibukun." He replied that his name was also Ibukun. I didn’t believe him at first, but then he smiled and said, "You and I will have something to do together," before walking away. I shrugged it off and left. Israel: A few months later, I wanted to meet her again, but I didn’t have any way to contact her. Then, by chance, I was called for a gig, and there she was part of the team. I still remember those days when we made YouTube content together. I will just keep teasing and steering at her, she was such a good ,homely and virtuous woman. Ibukunmi: I had forgotten about him, but when I saw him again at the gig, I was excited, though I didn't show it. He seemed different. We were working together, but for some reason, he always found a way to irritate me. I was certain that would be the end of any feeling. Israel: The truth is, I loved being around her. I teased her a lot, which made her angry, but I couldn’t help it. One day, I decided it was time to tell her how I really felt. Ibukunmi: I’ll never forget the day I saw through all his teasing. He got sick at work, and I made him some tea. As I handed it to him and tried to leave, he held my hand and said, "Please don’t leave me alone." At that moment, my heart melted a little. From that day on, things changed between us—we began talking about life, family, and our future. Israel: A few months later, I asked her to be my girlfriend. Ibukunmi: I said yes, the way he asked me to be his girlfriend was different from how the other guys asked me,he said to me "Mama, I want you to grow with me." Eight years later, here we are. Cheers to a love that has been redefined. He has taught me selflessness, helped me find my voice, and brings balance to my personality. Israel: I love Ibukunmi so wholeheartedly, her love for God is contagious, her heart is filled with good I am glad to do life with her. I know this is another chapter in the love we’ve shared for the past eight years, we have gone through different seasons, challenges and obstacles together, still yet we grew even stronger through Christ our bedrock, Here’s to love over all things.
