Jay and I met back in January of 2013 at work shortly after I completed the academy. I always thought he was the biggest comedian at work so I rarely took him serious. As time went by he began to start teasing me and calling me “rookie-cop”. It never dawned on me that he was trying to get close to me until the day he asked, “Why won’t you let me take you out on a date?” I told him I never know when he is joking or being serious. After explaining that he was serious, we went on a couple of cop dates. These dates turned to road trips and vacations, vacations turned to visiting our families during the holidays.
On this night I flew into BWI from being in a close friend’s wedding. Jay picked me up from the airport. Before we even pull onto the highway, he stops the car in the middle of the road. Jay jumps out of the car and heads for the trunk and I just assumed he left his phone back there. I lean my seat back to prepare to take a nap. As I look up he is standing in front of the car with the headlights beaming on him with this look on his face like “Come here and let me show you something.” So, I get out of the car, with cars flying past us, and he pulls two dozen red roses from behind his back. My look of concern turned into a huge smile. I knew then he had missed me as much as I missed him. I turned back to get in the car, but he is still standing there. I look back and he gets on one knee with this look in his eyes and nervous smirk on his face. Before he could even ask me anything, tears roll down my face and I tell him to quit playing!!! “Are you serious right now?!” He then asks for me to be his wife and of course I said YESSSSSSSSSS! To have a man that loves me for me and my child as his own is more than a blessing, it is a gift from God. To be able to marry not only the love of my life but my best friend is every girl’s dream come true. I cannot wait to say our “I do’s” in front of God, our family and friends!
