🏜️ Sand Dunes & Stars

10:30 am - 10:00 pm

Great Sand Dunes National Park, Piñon Flats Campground
11999 State Highway 150, Mosca, CO 81146

Shoes: Hiking boots or sneakers (sand can still be warm at 5 PM). Layers: It will drop into the 40s/50s once the sun goes down! Headlamps: Useful if you stay for the stars. Wax: The rental shop gives you a "puck" of wax—use it before every single slide or you won't move!

The Plan: 10:30 AM: Sleep in & leave Pagosa (1.5 hr drive to Alamosa). 12:00 PM: Stop at Kristi Mountain Sports in Alamosa to pick up sand sled/board rentals. 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM: Sand Dunes Recreation (Hooper, CO). This is a huge hot springs pool with a 25ft water slide. It’s the best way to stay cool and grab lunch while the sand is at its hottest. 5:30 PM – 9:30 PM: Great Sand Dunes National Park. Sled as the sun sets (the sand will be cool!). 10:00 PM: Drop off the boards at the 24/7 return bin at the Fairfield Inn in Alamosa (right on the way home). 11:30 PM: Back in Pagosa. ✨ Pro Tip: Stay until 9:15 PM. June is peak "Milky Way" season, and since there’s a new moon around the wedding, the stars will be mind-blowing.
