Jade and Houpu met in 2021 and connected almost immediately—though not in the way most people might imagine. Their first spark came through lively debates, diving straight into theological disagreements with an energy that surprised them both. What began as friendly sparring slowly grew into something deeper. Soon their days became intertwined. They started running together every morning, sharing conversations that wandered through life, politics, faith, and the questions that shape us. They often ended those days over dinner, talking long after the plates were cleared. They went on little outings, supported one another through demanding seasons, and worked quietly side by side. Everything between them remained sincerely platonic, yet friends around them began to notice a warmth and ease they themselves hadn’t named yet. Something tender was taking shape. After a full year of friendship, they finally spoke aloud what had been steadily growing beneath the surface. They admitted they had feelings for one another. With prayerful consideration, and after Houpu asked Jade’s parents for permission to pursue a relationship with her, they officially began dating in 2022. What followed became a beautiful testimony to their commitment. Across long-distance stretches, months spent on different continents, and a blend of joys and challenges both expected and unexpected, they kept choosing one another. Worship became one of their sweetest shared rhythms, and their long conversations, still full of curious questions and lively debate, remained at the heart of their connection. They found joy in serving their young adult community and treasured the moments spent planning and carrying out meaningful projects together. Over time, they came to recognize that what they had was not just precious, it was forever. They look forward to a marriage deeply rooted in God’s love, shaped by service to those whom society often overlooks, and brightened by the spirited, intellectual, and thoughtful conversations that first drew them together.
