How we met

hiking and hiking and hiking - along the Appalachian Trail

We first met in the Smokies, stopping at a shelter for lunch, sharing the bugs between us (this is how Chris (Peregrine) phrases it. Shannon (Inasias) is very attractive to bugs and always hogs them. Our first real interaction was later that night. Inasias, tired, with sore feet and aching joints, was sitting down to a 3 pm dinner after a 16 mile day. She was not feeling good, but at least felt accomplished. Peregrine rolled up, dropped his pack, and started doing pull-ups on the side of the shelter. He dropped down and looked around. "Does anyone want to run the 2 miles up to Clingman's Dome tonight?" He asked. "It's supposed to be rainy tomorrow but we might get a view tonight!" Inasias looked at him with all the contempt her tired mind could muster. "This guy." she thought. Peregrine's thoughts were as follows: "I'm in the woods! what a great day." They started hiking together about 700 miles later.

How we married

back to the Appalachian Trail

We chose to get married on the appalachian trail on a backpacking trip, since it's such a crucial part of how we got to know one another. Our third tramily (Trail Family) member, Spitfire, officiated. It was incredibly difficult to narrow down who we could invite into a 12 person backpacking group, made only slightly easier by the fact that we would force them through 15 miles of hiking, and only so many people will agree to that. On September 20th, 2025 we traveled to Grayson Highlands state park (a series of balds maintained by wild ponies). We got married just south of the state park on "Buzzard Rocks", with only a few blisters and one minor head wound. We celebrated with cupcakes and champagne (both of which people snuck into their bags, it was a surprise to us!)
