How we met

It wasn't a date

To start, our first hang-out was NOT a date!! Let me make that clear! Katie and I met at a worship night at her college. It was nothing at first until I saw her at my church. She had just started attending school in Fort Worth, and soon after that, she was singing at my church. I thought she was gorgeous and had a beautiful voice. So, I went to talk to her... A WHOLE MONTH LATER.. whatever! We ended up getting coffee the next day, which turned into 7 hours of us hanging out, NOT a date, though. Even though I did pay for everything, and I drove, and I thought she was so beautiful in the downtown lights. I had a huge crush on her. After this night that lowkey sealed the deal for me, I pursued her more and more. We hung out more, and then I asked her on our first date. She had specifically said she didn't like movie and dinner dates, so we went bowling... And then went to get dinner and see a movie, I guess we both got what we wanted. Katie has to be the first girl I've had to ask out "old fashioned." I had to ask her dad for permission. So, after doing that, I asked her to be my girlfriend. Katie and I have been through some rough times, as does every couple, but God grew us in ways to love each other more and glorify him. To be straight up, the talk of marriage started early on; we knew what we wanted, and we worked hard to pursue it. So, a whopping year and a half later, I got on one knee and asked her to be my wife. The memories we share will be forever cherished, and I'm so excited for what lies ahead! -Chris Okay, let's clarify: our first hang-out was like a date. Chris swears it wasn't, but he could've fooled me. For me, it all started when Chris DM'd me on Instagram. He said, "I hope this isn't weird, but you have a beautiful voice." My first thought was, "He's just being friendly to the new girl at church." It quickly turned into something more. We occasionally made weird faces at each other and got lunch after service with other friends from church. Although we never actually talked to each other. One Sunday before service, I was standing in the back alone, and Chris walked up to me and started asking me questions about the hobbies that I'm into. This conversation changed everything for me, he asked me to coffee the next day, and what was supposed to be an hour of coffee turned into 7 hours, the best night of my life. He claims it wasn't a date, but anyone who is in their right mind would say it was a date. Chris got to have the "what are your intentions" talk with my parents, to sum it up, they loved him. On that night, January 21st, 2023, we started dating. It has been a joy to be loved by Chris's kind and compassionate heart. It's hard to believe that just one small conversation led to a ring on my finger and getting to marry my best friend. -Katie
