After college, Grace and Jared both landed jobs at Cardinal Cushing Centers, a special education school in Hanover, MA. They went through their initial trainings together and would occasionally see each other around campus, but nothing sparked right away — mostly because Grace was in a relationship at the time. By spring of 2021, after Grace’s previous relationship had ended, fate stepped back in. Grace and Jared were assigned to work directly together for the first time since being hired, both serving as TAs in the vocational program. Their days were busy, unpredictable, and sometimes involved chasing after students who decided to go on unexpected adventures — which led to Jared’s now-famous line: “I should probably have your number, just in case I need to call or text you for work purposes.” To be fair… he wasn’t wrong. But it also turned out to be the perfect excuse. From that moment, they started talking more, then hanging out with coworkers after work, until eventually it became just the two of them. Jared soon introduced Grace to Marshfield and his circle of friends. They spent evenings at the beach, tried new restaurants, and shared plenty of laughs. Their first official date was a cozy movie night — something that has remained one of their favorite things to do together. And after that… the rest is history.
Grace thought their trip to Italy was simply a celebration of her graduation from UMass Boston — but she was very wrong. Both of them were thrilled for their second big adventure together, totally unaware (well… one of them) of what was about to happen. After a long day of travel, they checked into their room, grabbed dinner, and wandered through the winding streets of Naples. The next morning — their first full day in Italy — they were ready for what they love most: eating. And they were stoked. They spent the morning on a food tour with their favorite guide, Aldo, before being passed along to another guide for a historical tour of Napoli. A couple of hours later, the tour ended at the breathtaking San Domenico Maggiore Church. The Spanish Baroque architecture, the soaring ceilings, and the sunlight pouring through the stained-glass windows created the most magical atmosphere. While exploring, Grace unknowingly wandered toward the center of the church, close to the altar — the perfect spot. As they stood there, Jared started his speech… but the moment he knelt down, Grace burst into tears. He barely made it through two sentences before giving up and saying, “There’s only one thing left to ask you… Will you marry me?” Grace said yes through happy tears, and then they both cried — loudly enough that they were promptly (and politely) asked to leave the church. So the rest of their photos were taken outside, still laughing. On the walk back to the hotel, they stopped for a snack, where Jared finally read the full proposal speech he had been working on for weeks. From that moment on, the entire trip turned into a celebration of their engagement. They couldn’t stop smiling or laughing the whole time. What made the moment even more special was Grace’s ring: the center stone came from her grandmother’s engagement ring. Grace couldn’t stop admiring it — and she still can’t.
