FAQs

We'll keep updating these as and when we have new info to share.
Question

What is the address of the wedding venue?

Answer

Oasis Boutique Hotel, Golden Sands, Riviera Holiday Club, Varna, Bulgaria, 9007

Question

How do I get from Varna airport to the centre?

Answer

Varna City is about a 15-20 minute drive from the airport. There will be taxis waiting outside, so just flag one down and show them your accommodation address on your phone. A taxi should cost around €10-20.

Question

What is the weather and climate like in Varna?

Answer

During May, the weather in Varna is generally mild to warm, with daytime temperatures often reaching between 18°C and 24°C. We recommend bringing a jacket / something warm to wear in the evening.

Question

Will the wedding be indoors or outdoors?

Answer

The ceremony and cocktail hour will be held outdoors. The reception will be held under a sheltered veranda. The venue is next to the beach, so it could be windy and get chilly.

Question

What currency do I need for Bulgaria?

Answer

The currency of Bulgaria is currently the Bulgarian Lev (BGN), however they are moving to the Euro as of 1 January 2026! We recommend getting some Euros out for the trip. You can pay with card for most things but it will be handy to have cash for small items / meals.

Question

What's the dress code for the welcome party and wedding?

Answer

Smart casual for the welcome party. For the wedding, think spring garden party. Lighter hue suits, bright spring colours, bold patterns, floaty dresses.

Question

Can I bring a plus one?

Answer

In order to keep our wedding as intimate as possible, only the guests formally invited on your wedding invitation will be accommodated. If you received a plus one, they will appear when you RSVP.

Question

Are children invited?

Answer

While we love your little ones, please note this is an adults-only event, with the exception of children closely involved in the ceremony. We hope this will allow you a much-deserved weekend off to celebrate with us!

Question

Why did we choose Varna?

Answer

Our families live on opposite sides of the world, so picking a wedding destination was always going to be tricky. We decided to explore some venues whilst on a trip to Bulgaria visiting George's relatives. And when we first visited Varna, we were taken aback by its diverse history and relaxed charm. Located on Bulgaria's Black Sea coast, the city is home to golden sand beaches, ancient treasures, and—our favourite—Primorski Park, which stretches 8km along the coastline. We're working on a Varna travel guide so you can see for yourselves why we chose this as our wedding destination.

Travelling to Varna

We would love to have our favourite people join us on our special day and we appreciate all of you for planning to spend it with us. We're here to help with any travel logistics. Please just send us a message and we'll figure it out together.

Flight

Travelling to Varna from London airports

There are direct flights to Varna from London Luton airport. The Wizz Air flights from Luton that week of the wedding look like a decent option: around £150 return and at reasonable times.

Flight

Travelling to Varna from Manchester airport

Unfortunately, there are no direct flights to Varna from Manchester. You can fly direct to Burgas, which is further down the coast, and take a coach to Varna which takes 2 hours 45 minutes. If this is your preferred route, please let us know in advance and we can help to organise the coach. We advise against hiring a car and driving to Varna from Burgas yourselves — we’ve done it ourselves and it’s a fast country lane for the whole journey. Best to leave it to the locals.

Flight

Travelling from Australia or the States

For guests travelling long-haul, firstly, thank you. We appreciate you. If you're travelling from Australia, we recommend flying first into London, Istanbul, or Vienna which have the most frequent, direct flights to Varna. You could also fly to Bulgaria's capital, Sofia, and then head to Varna on a short 50 minute flight or with a taxi bus transfer that'd take about 5 hours drive. Singapore Airlines currently has return flights to London from Brisbane going for under $1,800, 24hr each way. You could use London as your hub, and then jump on the Wizz Air flights recommended above with the UK crew. Alternatively, all your big Middle Eastern airlines (Qatar, Emirates) have return flights currently to Istanbul from Brisbane for $2,000. These are 21 hours as you don't fly across Europe, and then you can get a 1 hour flight to Varna from Istanbul after some baklava. Please note, a few of the big European cities e.g. Paris and Berlin, do fly direct to Varna but it's very much a seasonal thing, so some 2026 short-haul flights could appear closer to the time. For anyone travelling from the States, it looks like going from New York through London, Frankfurt, or Vienna then getting a short-haul flight to Varna would be good options. The long-haul journey to Bulgaria is something George and his family have done a lot, so please get in touch if you need any help with planning your journey!
