About Merida

The Wedding Website of Maria Fernanda Deleze Rodriguez and Juan Jose Bonilla Castro
Known as "the white city" for its limestone construction, Mérida was established in 1542 by Francisco de Montejo on the site of the ancient Mayan city of T’ho. The city today is a vibrant blend of its Maya heritage and Spanish colonial influences. When exploring Mérida, be sure to visit its cultural gems: the Catedral de San Ildefonso, Casa Montejo, Palacio de Gobierno, Palacio Municipal, Paseo Montejo, and the Museo Regional de Antropología e Historia (Palacio Canton). And don't forget to visit a cenote - these are deep natural wells that the Maya considered sacred, symbolizing the entrance to the spiritual underworld. Some of Merida’s most popular cenotes are Mucuyché, San Ignacio Chocholá and X’Batun. My personal favorite (Fer) is Homún, a town an hour away from Merida where you can find many cenote tours. Other short drive but worth visiting destinations are Valladolid, Izamal, Sisal, las Coloradas, Uxmal pyramids, and Chichén Itza pyramids. Progreso is the closest beach.

FAQs

Question

When should I RSVP by?

Answer

Please RSVP as soon as you can but no later than October 30th.

Question

Are kids welcome?

Answer

Although we love kids, this will be an adult only event.

Question

Is there transportation to and from the hotels to the ceremony?

Answer

The hacienda, where the reception will take place is about 40 minutes away from Merida downtown. To facilitate transportation, there will be buses driving guests from and to Merida. There will be bus transportation from the religious ceremony to the hacienda. At the end of the night, there will be bus transportation back to downtown Merida at different schedules (exact drop off location and schedules announced later).

Question

Is there a dress code?

Answer

We want our guests to be really fresh, and comfortable. Merida is hot and humid so we are recommending guests to bring guayabera or linen shirts and comfortable midi or long dresses. If you want to wear a guayabera but don’t have one - do not worry - there are guayabera stores literally everywhere in Merida, especially around Paseo Montejo. These shirts are affordable, breathable and will keep you fresh all night.

Question

I have a food allergy, can I make a special request?

Answer

Yes!! Please text our wedding planner Javi at +52 56 1987 3566 or Fer at +1 512 758 0327 to let us know if you have any dietary restrictions.

Question

Is there parking for the ceremony or reception?

Answer

Yes but parking is limited so we definitely recommend you take the bus!
