This story seems like one that should start with "Once Upon a Time", but this is simply how it happened. Faith and Leo had gone to Florence, Italy not to find love, as many do; rather, to find success at the European Karate Championships. Little did they know, they would find both by time they were forced to be separated for the first time. Faith got to the O'hare Chicago Airport first, and was waiting alongside her team for the 2 athletes from Florida to arrive. Everyone knew each other except for this "Leo Martinez.” Faith had tried to look him up on Instagram as everyone on the team was skeptical about how good he was, given that no one knew him by name. Nothing came up. They anxiously waited and he finally arrived. Faith's first thought was that he had massive legs, and Leo thought Faith was the first person he had ever seen to pull off red hair. They both knew this, yet neither of them looked at each other; funny how that works. Fast forward and they are walking the enchanting streets of Florence, going into every cafe around the corner, being led into museums, eating delectable food. Then, if we look closer to see Faith and Leo, they keep finding themselves right next to each other. They are in a cafe: Leo wants the same drink Faith orders. They are in a museum: Faith and Leo are contemplating all the same pieces and are way behind the rest of the group. They are in a restaurant: Faith wants to try Leo's food. Now Faith knows she likes Leo so, naturally, they try to ignore each other so the other doesn't catch on to any feelings. I mean, they live states away and nothing could come of it. Right? Well, ignoring each other wasn't working. Especially once they were taken to the Uffizi Gallery. There was so much stunning catholic art and Leo used that to his advantage, swooning Faith with all his knowledge of Church and art history. Faith was thinking to herself: this is the type of man she wants to marry, someone who knows beautiful things. But it couldn't be Leo, he lives in Florida. Right? On the last night, after competing and both of them placing in kumite, their coach has everyone sent to their rooms to rest for the day of travel to come. The team had other plans, all eight athletes piled into Faith's room to hang out and say our goodbyes to each other and to Florence. After some time Faith hears a knock on her door. It's Ryan Daly, one of Faith's friends and teammates. Ryan tells her he had been talking with Leo and says he thinks they need to text each other to meet up and actually let each other know how they are feeling. Faith is really nervous but ends up agreeing. Ryan left and she got a text from Leo. Faith decided she suddenly needed to iron her pants for tomorrow, and the ironing room happened to be in the lower level of the hotel. The perfect excuse. Faith let Leo know where she was going and went down stairs. Then 30 minutes went by. Faith couldn't believe it! What a sissy she thought. Now Faith is downstairs, pretending to iron her pants, growing impatient, then he finally arrived. Leo had been trying to text Faith for the last 30 minutes to ask when she was going to head down but there wasn't any connection downstairs. Things are starting to make sense. So they talked about Faith's plans to stay in Italy an extra two days and joked about Leo "losing" his passport tomorrow so he could stay with her. Two hours flew by and it was time to go to bed. Faith couldn't figure out why he hadn't tried to kiss her and was so bummed and figured that meant he wasn't interested in the same way she was. Oh well, he's just a boy from Florida. Right? Leo ended up kissing Faith in the small elevator on the way back to their rooms. It was perfect. Leo then took her to her floor and they said their goodbyes. The next day Leo and the rest of the team flew out so Faith figured she would see Leo at least at Nationals. But Leo had other plans, because he's not just a boy from Florida.
