When we first met, neither of us imagined we’d one day choose each other as lifelong companions. We had crossed paths in high school, but it wasn’t until Spring 2017 at El Camino Community College that we truly got to know one another. Between classes we’d exchange quick hellos—small moments that slowly grew into something more. One day, I (Erick) gathered the courage to ask Clarissa if she wanted to hang out after class. To my surprise, she said yes. We played mini golf at Mulligans and had an incredible time together, and from that day, we became inseparable. That summer brought us even closer: spontaneous beach trips, long talks, and days spent simply enjoying each other’s company. We officially became a couple on August 22, 2017. Since then, we’ve celebrated major milestones side by side. We both earned our Bachelor’s degrees, and Clarissa went on to complete her Master’s at UCLA in 2024. We had always talked about marriage, but agreed we would wait until our education was complete. Once she graduated, the countdown to a proposal began. Back in 2017—just one day after we became boyfriend and girlfriend—we took a wine tasting trip to Temecula, where we also went on a hot air balloon ride. I knew I wanted our engagement to be meaningful, a nod to the places and moments that shaped us. That’s how I decided on proposing at a winery in Temecula on March 15, 2025. As many of you know, we’ve shared countless adventures together, and we see life as one long, beautiful journey. There will always be challenges, but as long as we have one another, we know we can face anything. Taking this next step is our way of promising that no matter what comes our way, we’ll care for each other, support each other, and continue making the very best of our life together. Cuando nos conocimos, ninguno de los dos imaginaba que algún día nos elegiríamos como compañeros de vida. Coincidimos en la preparatoria, pero no fue hasta la primavera de 2017, en El Camino Community College, cuando realmente empezamos a conocernos. Entre clases nos saludábamos con un “hola” rápido—momentos breves que poco a poco se fueron convirtiendo en algo más. Un día, yo (Erick) reuní el valor para preguntarle a Clarissa si quería salir después de clase. Para mi sorpresa, dijo que sí. Jugamos mini golf y la pasamos increíble; desde ese día nos volvimos inseparables. Ese verano nos unió aún más: escapadas espontáneas a la playa, largas pláticas y días simplemente disfrutando de nuestra compañía. Oficialmente nos hicimos novios el 22 de agosto de 2017. Desde entonces, hemos celebrado grandes logros juntos. Ambos obtuvimos nuestros títulos de licenciatura, y Clarissa completó su maestría en UCLA en 2024. Siempre habíamos hablado de casarnos, pero acordamos esperar hasta terminar nuestros estudios. Cuando ella se graduó, comenzó la cuenta regresiva para la propuesta.
