We first met at the annual Christmas Market hosted in our neighborhood, Apache Shores, in December 2020. We talked about our beloved dead dogs as we drank free Electric Jellyfish beers. Our conversation was easy and enjoyable, even though we were talking about loss and grief. Fast forward six months—Emma runs up to Evan at the lake park and says, “I like your Mitsubishi!” #nerd. They exchange numbers and part ways. Emma texts him, but no reply. She thinks, “Doh, I guess he’s not into it.” Meanwhile, Evan wanted to respond but held back because he was in a relationship at the time. What a stand-up guy! Fast forward another year and a few months—Evan is single. He sees Emma again at the lake park and rushes over to say hi. Emma, fresh off an afternoon on the lake with her boys, barely notices him, too focused on keeping the boys safe and avoiding any boat mishaps. Evan thinks, “Doh, I guess she’s not into it.” Finally, on March 4, 2023, the stars aligned. We ran into each other at a mutual friend’s 50th birthday party. Evan said hi, and while I was happy to see him, I was sure he wasn’t interested. As I started to leave, he did something totally uncharacteristic—he stopped me, grabbed me by the hips, and sat me down next to him on the bench. My one thought? “Oh, hell yeah! Let’s do this!”
“Hey babe, are you awake?” It was 7:30 on a Friday morning. “Since we’re both up, want to do something fun? Maybe go for a hike or hunt for fossils?” Neither of us generally work on Fridays. We know we're lucky! "Yeah! That sounds great," I replied. On a very casual hike, on the trail where we had our first date, in the middle of a creek bed, I broke a slab of limestone as I stepped onto it. Shortly after, Evan also broke a slab of limestone. I paused and said, " Wait a second! Any time something really weird like that happens, it's usually a sign that I need to pause and take a closer look because I'm about to find something amazing." Evan was sure I knew what he was up to at this point. I wasn't, I really wasn't! Crouched down with my face to the ground I spotted an unusual rock. I thought it might be a preform and exclaimed, "Oh my god, Evan, look at this! I don't think I should touch it." "Well, what is it? Grab it!" "Ok, but first I need to take a picture of it in situ." He loves me for being just as much of a weird nerd as he is. #loveonthespectrum I grabbed it after taking a picture and immediately dropped it because it wasn't stone at all. You know that feeling when you're expecting something to feel or taste a certain way but it totally doesn't. It felt so weird, so I threw it. Poor Evan. He was worried it was going to end up in the creek at this point. Once again he urged me to pick it up and check it out. I laughed, realizing it was a hide - a - key. "Well, is there anything in it," Evan urged. I opened it and saw a red velvet bag. Without removing the bag, I reached in and traced my fingers around the circumference of a ring. "Oh my god, Evan. I think I found someone's ring!" Meanwhile, Evan was precariously balanced on one knee trying not to fall in the creek. Finally, I looked at him and yelled, "Did you do this?!!!" It was a wonderful and completely unexpected surprise.

We did some research and found a few hotels for you to consider. Airbnb is always a good option too. Isla is a tiny island and many people get around in golf carts. You really can't go wrong. But we encourage guests to stay closer to Playa Norte where Zama Beach Club is located. Next door to Zama is your best location at a moderate price with a cheeky name Chichis & Charlie's https://cuxosandcharlies.com/accommodations/ Next door to Chichi’s is a small boutique sister hotel called Cuxos. https://cuxoshotel.com 3 min walk from Zama Beach Club is Ixchel Beach Hotel if you bougie. I see you https://www.ixchelbeachhotel.com 0.2 miles away is a sweet boutique hotel called Tres Mentiras, and by sweet we really mean cheap. It really is super cute tho! Check it out! https://tresmentirasboutique.com/acerca-de/ If you're looking to hide away from the fiesta .3 miles away is Hotel Secreto aptly named for its secret entrance. Can you say "Secret Tunnels" https://www.hotelsecreto.com 10 min walk brings you to Rocamar - it's casually chic and on a rock with panoramic views of the Caribbean. https://www.rocamar-hotel.com/book-a-room 1.2 miles away is a couple's hideaway at Icaco.
