I LOVE THIS PLACE! Beautiful view, romantic garden, good food, and hobbit houses!!! My favorite things in one place hehe
El Tunco beach, (a Salvadoran slang word to refer to pigs), is the most emblematic surf destination in El Salvador. It is named El tunco because of an immense boulder halfway submerged on its beach, which in some remote season, you can see the shape of this friendly animal. Visited by hundreds of local and foreign tourists weekly, this beach wasn´t always a tourist attraction since back in the seventies and eighties, it was a small remote little town, next to a quiet estuary; It has become must-go destination for the international surfer and for those who seek to immerse themselves in the bohemian and so much wished surf culture. Located just 7 kilometers west of El Puerto de La Libertad, El Tunco is a microcosm where you can breathe a cosmopolitan atmosphere. It´s filled with lots of fun and “chiva”, what the locals say to express good vibes or something awesome. The love, the hospitality, and the spirit of being serviceable from the local people are like the icing on the cake.
Hiking lovers can go on an excursion, or just enjoy the local cuisine and relax in the many restaurants in the area, either day or night. El Boquerón National Park is located in the crater of the San Salvador volcano. It is a protected area with a great diversity of fauna and flora. With marked road trails, and a 20 to 25- minute walk to the crater, the area has three viewpoints at different angles. Where you can appreciate El Boqueroncito, a smaller crater (37 meters high approx.), and the slopes where flowers and fruits of temperate climate are grown. In addition, along the road, you will find beautiful viewpoints, restaurants, and cafes with spectacular views of San Salvador, Lake Ilopango, and the Chinchontepec volcano. Hours are from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. The entrance fee for Salvadorans is $1 and for foreigners $2. Children under 6 years old are free, as well as those over 60 years old.
If the beach is your thing, you definitely have to visit La Libertad! Here you'll find plenty of options if you want to surf, relax or have some fun in the sun. In under an hour you'll be able to enjoy delicious and fresh seafood delicacies, disconnect from the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy a beautiful sunset. This department also counts with prehispanic ruins, colonial architecture, the most fertile green fields, and beautiful beaches; out of which the most famous ones are El Tunco, El Majahual, San Blas, El Sunzal, and San Diego. Some must-see archeological sites in La Libertad are San Andres and Joya de Ceren, the latter of which was declared Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. You can enjoy some of its natural beauty when visiting the imposing San Salvador volcano, a popular spot for anyone seeking cool weather and impressive scenery or to enjoy its restaurants and coffee shops.
Learn about the Mayan civilization, indigo techniques, and much more history of El Salvador. In this attraction, visitors will discover a pre-Hispanic ceremonial center with various mounds and structures that envelop you in a mystical environment surrounded by nature. The museum is a must-see, its architecture was inspired by the old houses of the colonial haciendas, with long corridors encircling a pleasant central patio. It is made of adobe and tile, it is a postcard in itself.
One of the most beautiful and better-preserved cities in Central America is with no doubt: Suchitoto. Once the first capital of El Salvador around 1528. It still holds an invaluable cultural and historical wealth that merges with nature and its imposing views, honoring its meaning in the Náhuat language: “place of birds and flowers." Located only 47 kilometers from San Salvador, the current capital, Suchitoto is a must-see destination during your visit to the country. Every corner of this colonial city holds a well-preserved architectural charm. Walking through its cobbled streets, you will appreciate the roofs made of clay shingles, beautiful balconies, or picturesque houses and doors that will transport you to the past. Besides, you can find many cultural centers, galleries, museums, handicraft stores, and community development spaces, among others.
Relaxation, cold weather, ecotourism, and rich and organic cuisine are what a visitor will find in the Miramundo hill of Chalatenango. Among trees, natural sounds, and a pleasant climate, you will embark on an adventure that will end in incredible panoramic views. Miramundo Hill is adjacent to El Pital Hill and is part of a cloud forest system. With an altitude of 2,400 meters above sea level, the area is ideal for horticulture, so you will enjoy natural landscapes everywhere. And you can also tour the crops and pick produce or flowers, as a rewarding opportunity that allows you to be in contact with the fruits of the earth.
We ask that you RSVP as soon as possible but no later than January 5th.
