We met, for the very first time, at a hotel, the night before a cruise. A large group of Utah State students had planned a cruise over spring break. He knocked on our door, thinking his friends were on the other side. We chatted for a second, shut the door, and I turned to Melissa and said "he's so hot". I didn't think about that experience, or him, again (Melissa and I ended up going on a different cruise than everybody else). His best friend, Erik, who was also on the cruise, invited me to apply for a spot on his committee as VP of Logan Campus. Fast forward six months, I'm walking into the first meeting and happen to sit right next to Nick!! The next few meetings, we always ended up sitting right next to each other. On a road trip with his buddies, he mentioned my name and told them he thought I was cute. He texted my cousin (also on the committee) and asked if I was single. She broke the news that I was not. My friends told me this, but I did not do anything about it because I had a boyfriend at the time! A few weeks later, we broke up but I told my friends not to tell Nick yet. Until one day, I decided I was ready. I told my friends to invite him to the Taylor Swift party we were hosting at our house. He came and was his fun, zealous self. I mentioned that I taught high fitness on campus. He told me he was going to come to my class the next morning but I didn't believe him. Sure enough, he was there the next morning and asked for my number after the class. That night he invited me to come to a self-care night with his fraternity. I somehow happened to be on campus during that time, so I joined him! I drove him home after and we sat in his car talking for hours! About anything and everything. I went home that night, sat on the counter and told my roommates all about it. I don't think I had an immediate "I am going to marry him" moment, but I did say "he is exactly what I want in the person I marry". The next day I threw a party simply so I had a reason to invite him over. Again, we talked for hours. Our time together was immediately effortless, fun, and enriching. We went on an actual "date" to firehouse pizzeria the next day, and have been inseparable ever since!
Nick left to do sales at the beginning of the Summer and we had talked about getting married, but had no real plans, just thought it would be sometime next year. People told us that long distance would make or break us. Either we would break up while he was gone, or he would come back and we would want to get married. Turns out they were right. We saw each other three times over the summer. One of those, I flew out to Philadelphia to join him over the Fourth of July. My second morning there, we visited Longwood Gardens. We explored conservatories, watched a fountain show before we made our way to a private garden. There, we sat on a bench completely secluded from other visitors. We talked about our life together and the things we love about our relationship. During that time, he proposed and I said YES, OBVIOUSLY! We spent the rest of the week exploring a new city, watching fireworks, and falling more in love than I knew was possible!
