Travel Note
Sanibel and Captiva Island are located approximately 35 miles from the Southwest Florida International Airport in Ft. Myers, FL (RSW). While it is easy to get a taxi from the airport, we recommend booking a car rental as there are no Ubers available once on the islands.
Hotel
Sanibel and Captiva are still recovering from Hurricanes Ian, Helene and Milton and many resorts are closed. We have reserved a block of rooms at 'Tween Waters and recommend booking early. This hotel is the site of our Welcome Party, Wedding Ceremony and After Party and transportation will be provided to the Wedding Reception. Please note that you must call to make a reservation and reference the Lautenbach-Bonebrake Wedding for a 10% discount. Check-In is Friday, March 28, 2025 and Check-Out is Sunday, March 30, 2025. Please note the discounted rate and our room block expires January 28, 2025.

There are almost 40 miles of beaches on Sanibel and Captiva Islands, so you will have no problem finding a beach to enjoy the sun, sand, and beautiful views. These beaches are some of the most unique barrier islands in the world, having an east-west orientation when most islands are north-south. Because of this, the islands have great sandy beaches and an abundance of shells from the Gulf of Mexico. If you are staying at 'Tween, you have access to their private beach with chair and umbrella rentals for a quiet and relaxing day in the sun! Other nearby beaches include Bowman's Beach and Blind Pass Beach.
If you're not a beach person but like the water, the pools at 'Tween are a great place to have a pina colada (or two) and a great Florida grouper sandwich!
Feeling more adventurous but want to stay at the resort? There are many activities that you can arrange at 'Tween including tennis, pickle ball, kayaking, paddle boarding, boat trips and more!
Just 7.5 miles from 'Tween is J.N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge, part of the largest undeveloped mangrove system in the United States. Walk, bike or drive through the 4-mile Wildlife Drive. This amazing refuge is home to over 6,400 acres of mangrove forest, reptiles and wildlife, and more than 245 bird species, so birdwatching and photography are fabulous!
Approximately 9.5 miles from 'Tween is the Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum. This is the only museum in the United States dedicated entirely to the study and public education of shells and mollusks. And the giant octopus is VERY cool!
Spending more time on the island? Visit a nearby island (Cabbage Key, Useppa, Boca Grande, Tarpon Lodge), watch the sunset, or follow dolphins at play with a Captiva Cruise adventure.
There are several fun and casual places to eat on the island that are driving distance from the resort. For breakfast, we either recommend Shipyard (at 'Tween Waters) or the Over Easy Cafe. For lunch or dinner, one of our all time favorite places (and a "must" every time we come to Sanibel) is Doc Fords. Be sure to get the Yucatan Shrimp tacos with extra sauce if you go! Other fun places are MudBugs Cajun Kitchen, Rosalita's, Grandma Dot's, Wickies, and Traders. Il Cielo and Old Captiva House (at 'Tween) are also great dinner options. Reservations are required and/or recommended for Wickies, Traders, Il Cielo and Old Captiva House.
Unfortunately we will not be able to accommodate children at our wedding due to limited space at the venues.
No, although you can get a taxi from the airport to the island, there are no Ubers once you are on the island. We will provide transportation to the wedding reception from 'Tween Waters and will run shuttles back to the hotel throughout the evening, but we recommend renting a car so you can explore the island during the day. If you prefer to stay at 'Tween, then you should make arrangements for a car back to the airport ahead of time as this is the busy season and car services are limited.
Our welcome party will be cocktail attire and the ceremony and reception are black tie, although a dark suit is fine for men. All restaurants on Sanibel and Captiva are casual.
