Fifty years—-what? Only God knew!

06/27/2026

Here is a bird’s eye view of our real life movie highlighting only the main points and without diving into the sub plots: A few family members said “you’ll never make it”; but here we are at 49 years, proving them wrong. It’s all surreal, but God knew! We were so meant to be. We grew (literally) and matured together after tying the knot unexpectedly in 1976. Our story is not far from a scandalous Enquirer-worthy smut. But with much prayer and support coupled with tenacity and much fervor, we were given some tools to succeed to 50 years and we acquired a small village, of which you all are part of. Additionally, we learned the meaning of: patience, forgiveness, understanding, wisdom, empathy, anger management, courage, fortitude, endurance, valor, intrepidity, perseverance, dignity and much more. One can say we forged through so many obstacles and quitting was not part of our vocabulary! That’s what our experiences show when one uses a magnifying glass into our past. We are two imperfect people who were joined in love and gifted with heaps of determination placing God in the center— trying our best to follow His will for us. But we never lost sight because after all, “God knew”. Edna Had I not asked him to get married immediately, I would not be a bride 50 years ago. My dad told me I will never get married, because I was to care for my parents when they got old. I would have cared for them anyway. He never liked my husband because he was determined for me never to be a bride. But later on, he realized he was missing out, because my husband was the best for me. Jesse I was completely blind-sided from the phone call (BART station at McDonald’s on 16th and Mission) I received from my girlfriend telling me she ran away from home and could I pick her up? What was I to do? Well we obviously got past all the newsy “MariTess” chizmiz that went viral in our church and our community. Our future plans were disrupted so we had to pivot and got married asap. New plan was to finish my college courses after. Just hear us when we say—-it was not an easy beginning for a newly wedded couple. We recommend that two people in love give each other time before tying the knot. Think through all the possible hurdles. In hindsight, 19 was too young to marry, however, I would do it again with this guy! Here’s to the years beyond fifty. We have lots of work to do; we have loads of adventure to look forward to—-only because it was factual: God knew!

Wedding Party

Jenalynne Salvador

Maid of Honor

Jen is our one and only birthed daughter. She was destined to be my helper since birth. We forced her into nursing and now she has been the one diagnosing us at our every event, and watching over us closely, ensuring both of our sound health. We are very proud of her accomplishments throughout the years including giving us two beautiful daughters. She also accompanies us on many of our abroad travels. She inherited my love for baking and entertaining friends. Thank you Jen for always being ready for the next adventure. 💜 we love you.

Jasmine Jose

Maid of Honor

My first-born niece—representing her deceased dad (may he continue to rest peacefully), who walked me down the aisle and gave me away. Thanks for being so ever present in our lives and supporting us in all ways. You were also present at our wedding, you were only 1+ year old and I’m sure you remember everything about that event! You’ve brought so much joy and love to the Jose family and we appreciate all that you are to us! We love you.

Kari Hidalgo

Matron of Honor

Our Baba’s wife: I kinda chose Kari for my son’s lifetime partner way back when they were freshmen at MBA. It came true, because God is writing their story. Thank you for bearing four super smart kids to add to our grandchildren list! You’re such a beautiful and strong soul with the best strawberry blonde curls! We love you!

April Hidalgo

Matron of Honor

You were the latest addition to our family and we so appreciate you for giving us J3 and Keanu! Your profound ability to whip your boys into shape and keep the family together while juggling a career is so huge. Thank you for loving our son and his daughter and making his family complete. We love you.

Abigail Hidalgo

Bridesmaid

Our firstborn granddaughter. You came into our lives when there was so much chaos. You kinda helped smooth life out for us! You turned out to be caring, smart, independent and strong willed; not to mention a fantastic nurse. Keep the love for travel going. We love you.

Alyssa Salvador

Bridesmaid

Our second born granddaughter—a delight in so many ways. You have been such a confident, independent and determined young lady, which was evident in grade school and dance class years. So much grace and beauty in your dancing that we never want to miss any of your performances. We look forward to what the future will bring. We love you!

Rian Hidalgo

Bridesmaid

Our third granddaughter—a beautiful baby girl with so much contribution to the grands’ funniest moments! Now you are so bookish smart and full of creativity with many many goals reached in your young age. You’re the only girl of four and you were sent by God first to help your parents take care of your brothers. A bright future is ahead for you and we wish to witness all, but you don’t need to rush on our behalf. We love you.

Ava Salvador

Bridesmaid

Avers… you surprise us at every attempt of anything you seek to accomplish! Because you have thus far been succeeding at all. You’re very ambitious and business minded. You are also discovering so many new likes in your life, such as fishing, traveling abroad and 10k marathons! You all of a sudden love climbing impossible mountains/hills and seem to complete without being tired. And you shot up in height just this year, which is one of the many surprises you bring us. Keep it up Ava. We love you.

Myles Hidalgo

Groomsman

Our first grandson. What a gift you have been since your birth. You’re cute like grandpa but definitely gap much taller than 5’8”! You have so much talent in sports, music, and math! Grandpa Johnnie would have given you math problems to solve—lots of them! We can’t wait to see what you will do with “life”. We love you.

Derrek Hidalgo

Best Man

Our first born son. The boy who made us mom and dad first. This is the moment when we both started to think we need to be more mature now. This is as real as it gets. Life wasn’t about individual needs or cares anymore. Because Baba made us grow up and learn how to nurture another living thing. Thank you for the life lessons and the discovery of love in a plural way. You helped me realize that being a mom was not role playing anymore. You have made us proud in so many ways. Just know that we are here for this lifetime ride and enjoying along the way. Thank you for giving us this opportunity to be you parents. We love you Baba!

Jesse “Hey” Hidalgo

Best Man

Our third-born and fina son. What a beautiful ride it has been since giving birth to you, my final pregnancy and easiest birthing process ever. Thank you for giving us many “firsts” such as making us grandparents. You took it to heart when I said I wanted to be a grandma when I turned 40! We found that school wasn’t the only place learning was taught. Because at a younger age, you figured many many life-concerning things out on your own! Thank you for turning out to be a decent human being that we can be proud to call our own. You have also made many choices that turned out to be such successes in your own path which will only determine the future of your family. We are in awe of all your achievements thus far. We are hanging tight coz the ride ain’t over. We love you Hey!

Jesse “J3” Hidalgo

Groomsman

J-3 is the mini Jesse Hey! Our 6th grandchild, who also excels in Math and many musical instruments. But please don’t mess with his boards. His fist love is skateboarding even when he is in Paris! Snowboarding like his dad is also one of J3’s best accomplishments. J-3 will probably end up being our tallest grand child. You are so open to all the learning in life and we adore that about you. Slow down with all your love / girl interests! We love you.

Henry Hidalgo

Groomsman

This grandson, hard to keep up with. His live is soccer and wants to be a pro-soccer player, however, he also loves golf and rubix cubing, and so many other sports. Thank you for showing us that life doesn’t stop at one interest. We can’t wait to see what you end up with in the future. You are opening doors to new heights and we are watching from the very back of the field! We love you Henry Hart Hidalgo.

Bennett Hidalgo

Groomsman

What an absolute surprise to have a Filipino-ish looking grandson (1 out of 4 ain’t bad!) in this D/K litter. Bennett is hands down the most dangerously gifted (scholastically and physically) human ever to be born in the Hidalgo family. He is fierce and nothing is going to stop him. We wish him a bright future but he is light years ahead of his class! He is determined and witnessing him reach his goals in the process has been satisfying. Thanks for the current ride, Benny! We love you.

Keanu Hidalgo

Groomsman

Our youngest grandchild and 5 grandson. You are such a delight to all you meet and we love that you include us in every task you take on when we are with you. You teach us patience and give new meaning to learning because everyday we learn from you. You have a sense of belonging in all circumstances and we are here for you at every new turn you take in life. Carry on big guy! We love you so much.

Mila Jose

Honor Attendant

Mila is the daughter of my youngest brother. She is sweet and loves to crochet. She plays the piano and violin, swims, and sings. She is my youngest of all the cousins and Ioves spending time with us. We love that she still likes hanging out with us and connects with us closely. We love you, Milala!

Our very first in person (as opposed to telephone calls) date: July 8, 1974
What she looked like in November 1973 (age 16)
What he looked like when he first arrived in November 1973
High school graduation class of 1975
Our only photo of our civil wedding. June 27, 1976
Saddest bride ever. Since my parents chose not to attend the wedding (dad took my mom to Venezuela), I showered and donned my gown. I didn’t fix hair and definitely no facial makeup. Oh well!
Photo of Aunt Rex and my Kuya—because my parents flew to Venezuela just for the wedding weekend. They gave me away.
Just the guys: Joel Jose, Zaldy Hidalgo, groom, Jerry Hidalgo and Henry Sumaraga. JT jose was bible bearer.

FAQs

Question

Why did we receive invites 6 months in advance?

Answer

Since this event is considered a destination and themed event, it was only fair to the attendees that advanced warning was given -as in instructions and scheduling as well as lodging. Also advance notice in what to wear: formal or bridgerton/regency era; come dressed as you please. Just know a prize is waiting for the best dressed.

Question

Is it easy to uber to venue?

Answer

Uber would be the ideal way. Especially if staying at the Hilton Garden Inn behind Sunset station Hotel, which is 5 minutes from the venue.

Question

Do we really have to come in bridgerton fashion?

Answer

It’s up to you. We used the bridgerton theme due to the venue. But we will welcome you dressed to your liking as long as it is formal wear. You choose color and style.

Question

We have to attend the ceremony?

Answer

We would love it if you do. It would be ideal to arrive at 4:30 and find your designated seat, have a beverage and relax. You’ll be seated in same seat throughout the evening.

Question

Can I bring a date?

Answer

We have limited space and will only be able to accommodate the seating written in your invitation. This is a seniors only event but few of the younger generation were invited too. Just come and have a great time but just remember, seats are pre-designated.

Question

What gift can we bring? Anything we need to know?

Answer

None! Thank you. Your presence will be perfect!
