We're looking forward to celebrating with you!
4:30 pm - 9:00 pm
You are free to dress however you deem comfortable, we will be wearing jeans, button down shirts, vests and ties. Whatever makes you happy will make us happy!
When you put my address into GPS, it will bring you into the Kasson Grove neighborhood. As you drive down Kasson Avenue, you will see the beach pavilion on the left next to lake. Please park in the grassy area that says beach parking. We will be having a simple dinner with a soup or salad, entree options and light dessert. We will be serving a signature cocktail to begin, beer and wine. If you would like to bring your drink of choice, please feel free. As a side note, there is no bathroom at the pavilion, just a porta-potty. There will be dancing, if you so choose!
Delicious Ice cream and cheeses from the famous Arethusa Farm, owned by the man that runs Manolo Blahnik. If you really want to treat yourself, the main restaurant next door Arethusa Al Tavolo is rated as the best restaurant in Connecticut. Be forewarned, it's pricey! Reservations definitely required. I took Aaron for his birthday a few years ago and it was the best food we had ever eaten. We consoled ourselves later but figuring out how long it would be before we were living in a cardboard box under the highway overpass if we dined there every night.
Lunch in the Taproom is always a good idea! For you Gilmore Girls fans, this was the inspiration for Lorelei's hotel.
This home is notable for being the birthplace of the Episcopal faith in the US. The first minister it is said, traveled by tunnel to get to the church without incident. The gardens are notable for being the only garden plan of famed English landscape designer, Gertrude Jekyll.
Just below Lake Waramaug, the village of New Preston has our new favorite restaurant, The Owl. Fabulous food and location, on the porch of an old house. We highly recommend a glass of the Buddy Sprinkles IPA if on tap, But anything from Kent Falls Brewing is magical. New Preston has a surprising amount of great local shopping. You'd never guess that the opening of Friday the 13th II was filmed in what was once a rather rundown village now filled with antiques and home goods shops.
This our new traditional place for Easter brunch. The Fife and Drum has a long history, having been in Kent over 50 years. My grandfather, the owner Dolph, and the actor Ephraim Zimbalist Jr. would often sing together around the piano on Sunday nights. This is a cozy, fun and unpretentious place to head to if you are in Kent.
When I was a kid, we ate here weekly. My grandfather met his men's group every morning here for breakfast. When Aaron and I first met, we would routinely come here for dinner as it almost seemed cheaper than cooking at home! This is an honest roadside country restaurant/diner that's been a local institution for close to 75 years. As per the name, most everything is cooked over their charcoal grills. This is the prime senior hangout, as the drinks are poured strong! It's not fancy, but we love it!
We have several distilleries that are crafting fine spirits in the area. This is the closest. Make sure to ask Aaron and his brother about their tour. Also of note: https://minehilldistillery.com/ in Roxbury. Local actor Chris Meloni is doing their ads!
I don't know how many of us will be up early Sunday morning? But if you want to take a 30 minute drive for one of the best flea markets around, this is it. I came here EVERY Sunday after church with my family and discovered my love for vintage pieces and antiques. You may even catch an episode of Flea Market Flip being filmed.
