Devon's Proposal on Christmas Day in front of my family!
We had seen each other around Asheville before but had never officially met—though He already knew Her name. One day, when a friend had mentioned he was heading over to “Blair & River’s” apartment, Devon immediately knew he wanted to tag along. At the time, she had just found out she was unexpectedly pregnant with her miracle baby, Sage, and truly wasn’t looking for a relationship. When Devon came over to help hang a TV, he was instantly smitten. As he tried to strike up a conversation, she quickly told him, “Look, I just found out I’m pregnant, so you’re kinda barking up the wrong tree” Without missing a beat, he simply replied, “Cool, I have kids too.” Just like that—completely unfazed. From then on, he kept showing up—almost every night—with peanut M&M’s and potato chips to satisfy her pregnancy cravings. With each visit, she found herself falling more and more for him. Every time he left, she would tell her roommate, “I think I like Devon,” to which she’d laugh and say, “It’s clear you like Devon.” Before long, those words turned into, “I think I love Devon.” Their relationship grew quickly and beautifully. By six months into her pregnancy, the couple had moved in together and were working toward gaining custody of Devon’s daughter, Sophia. Soon, they became a family of four, welcoming two little ones into their lives and embracing the joy (and chaos!) of a blended family. After Hurricane Helene, the family made the decision to leave Asheville and start a new chapter, becoming homeowners in Hayesville, North Carolina. Nearly four years later, on Christmas evening 2025, Devon proposed in front of Clarissa’s entire family—making it a moment they’ll cherish forever. And that’s how our story began—unexpected, a little unconventional, but absolutely meant to be.
