At the beginning of 2020, COVID wreaked havoc on the world, sustaining turmoil and dark days for the masses. But for the unlikely few like them, it represented a period of unexpected good fortune. Dating during this time proved tough for anyone, especially while cut off from much of the outside world, imprisoned indoors and generally living a social-free existence. Darren and Sophia chose to keep trucking and hit the dating apps, anyway. He was a Staten Island native who had been a veteran on the digital swipe-fests. She was a Jersey girl fairly newer to the party. Luckily, an underdog no one seemed to hear of named Zoosk played Cupid for these future lovebirds. He was late for their first date in usual fashion, she crossed the bridge for their second one in unexpected delight. After the hanging frequency increased to healthy double digits, she soon became enamored with how pizza should really taste. Neither he nor she predicted what an unfathomable long haul was in store for them both – a beautiful world where apps got deleted. And Saturday nights turned to mainstays. And Sunday mornings brought smiles. Where planned weekends turned to unplanned weeknights. When “let’s do this again” became “I love you so much” and eventually “you’re my whole world”. A couch they miss when they’re both not on it. A bed that’s empty when they’re both not in it. A place where connection is felt in a whole new way and the world feels right when food, music, movies, dancing, giggles, family and friends make two people know they swiped right. But most importantly, a life that feels perfectly imperfect as long as they’re both in it - loving one another, together forever.
