We first crossed paths in college, sharing the same class. On the very last day of class, Darryl initiated a conversation after it ended and we exchanged contact information. We instantly connected, went on a couple dates, and had a great time. Although life led us down different paths, we stayed in touch over the years. Eventually, we reconnected and fate brought us back together. With each passing day, our connection grew stronger and before we knew it, we were inseparable. Taking the next step in our journey felt not only natural, but meant to be.

We were in Jaco, Costa Rica, celebrating my birthday. We started the day with horseback riding on the beach, followed by a peaceful stroll along the shore. Afterward, we relaxed in our Airbnb, but as we were about to head out, the sky opened up and the rain kept us inside. Just when I thought the night would be quiet, he handed me a beautifully wrapped box. Inside, I found layers of photos of us, each one a special memory. When I reached the last layer, the box was empty. Confused, I looked up at him, and he smiled. “Look in the snack box,” he said. I opened the box, only to find it empty too. But when I turned around, there he was—on one knee, holding the most beautiful ring. My heart raced as he asked the question that would change everything.
