It all started on Facebook Dating. I had a rule never to date anyone with a name starting with “J,” but there he was. At first, we were both slow to respond, but I couldn’t ignore how cute he was, so I decided to give it a shot. Eventually, he gave me his number to move our conversations off the app, and that small step made all the difference. Our conversations felt natural, and he quickly proved to be a true gentleman. Very soon after, he started coming over—and practically never left. He brought with him a sense of peace and calmness that I’d never felt before. For the first time, I understood what it was like to feel completely at ease and safe. Despite my chronic impulsivity, my shopping habit, my habit of starting projects at 10:00 p.m., and the many weird and awkward moments I put him through, he was always there, steady and without complaint. He gave me unconditional love and affection, always putting so much effort into our relationship. When I met his son, everything fell into place. My daughters adored him, and together, we became the perfect blended family. I like to joke that I adopted him and his son. Looking back, it’s funny to think that a dating app and my “no J names” rule almost kept us apart. Now, I can’t imagine life without him—the man who brings me peace, joy, and the most genuine love I’ve ever known.
