How We Met

January 24, 2022

We met on a Discord chat with a lot of our mutual friends from the Christian community. They initially attempted an iMessage group that unfortunately backfired due to the high volume of participants. A sports channel was created, and Ryan was a frequent participant of that channel as he loves Auburn athletics. Ryan posted how for the first time, Auburn men’s basketball was ranked #1. Cynthia was NOT a fan of Auburn as her alma mater, Liberty, lost to the Auburn football team 53-0, during the 2018 season. In response, she replied, “mm, Auburn.” A month later, Cynthia decides to purchase Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on the Nintendo Switch. She only had one person to play multiplayer with. She goes ahead and asks people to play with her on the gaming channel. Ryan responded with interest, and a friendship was born. They would go on calls to play whenever a DLC wave was released. Ryan moved for a short time to Auburn, AL, and that is when their friendship got stronger. Cynthia was never into sports. Ryan introduced her to Auburn athletics, which brought her to become a sports fanatic. Miranda, the matron of honor, joined the duo. Eventually, it became a trio. Miranda had hindsight and saw that Cynthia and Ryan would be a great couple. Of course, there was stubbornness on Cynthia’s end. The Lord used Miranda to create a spark in the relationship by bringing up the typical pact of “what happens if she is not married by 30?” Ryan was up for it, and $50 was waged. It was either Ryan received money for a pair of Nike sweatpants, or he was going to get a wife. A conversation of Cynthia and Ryan having hypothetical ideas of what would happen led to a sudden interest in each other. Through prayer and seeking godly counsel, they decided to take a step and begin dating. Despite long distance, they persevered and always maintained communication and intentionality. A great friendship led to a start of a long adventure. Ryan proposed to Cynthia the day before the Auburn 2024 football started. Now, they are getting married on their third dating anniversary.
