We had been acquaintances for almost two years before April 7, 2007. I worked for Safeway's Credit Union, and he was part of the management team at Safeway's Beverage Plant. We both served on the committee that organized the annual Safeway employees' Easter egg hunt, but before that day, we really didn't know each other. Then came the moment that changed everything. At the last minute, the shy guy got volunteered to be the Easter Bunny. It was definitely not where he wanted to be, and I couldn't help but feel sorry for him. I did everything I could to help him survive what seemed like one of the most uncomfortable days of his life. Neither of us had any idea that one Easter Bunny costume, one act of kindness, and one ordinary spring day would become the beginning of our forever. And who knew that me bringing my new digital camera (before any of us had smart phones) to take pictures of the event would lead to some of the most special pictures we'd ever captue digitally. Over the years, so much has changed. We've been through our ups and downs, shared countless adventures, celebrated incredible milestones, and weathered life's challenges but here we almost 20 years later side by side. And one of the biggest changes? That shy guy isn't so shy anymore. Looking back, it's amazing to think that what started with an Easter Bunny costume led us here today. Through every laugh, every challenge, and every new chapter, even when we drifted apart we've somehow kept making our way back to each other. Who knew that April 7, 2007, would become the first page of the greatest story we've ever written? And the best part is, our story is still being written.
