How We Met

#summerbreak

Hi, my name is Christina, and I will be telling this story because Roman and I both agree that I have the better memory. Roman and I have actually known each other for a very long time. We first met 21 years ago, when I was 6 years old and he was 8 years old. We were just children riding our bikes in the neighborhood we both grew up in, talking and playing with the other kids. You see, Roman and his family actually lived a 2 minute walk down the street from my parent's home. Growing up, we saw each other around quite frequently. However, despite the fact that we would go on to attend the same middle school and high school, we rarely ever talked to one another. In fact, I can count on one hand how many conversations we had. It wouldn't be until the summer of 2013 that this would all change. That summer started out with boredom for me. I had just finished my sophmore year of high school and I had nothing to do. At the time, my parents were strict and I was seldom allowed to go over to friends' houses. Also, nothing good was on TV, and I had finished watching every movie that was worth watching on Netflix. It was 3pm on a Tuesday, that I wound up scrolling on Facebook. I was feeling bold, which is rare for me, and had decided to reach out to new people I knew in passing to see if I could make some new friends. The first person I messaged was actually Roman's brother, Robert. In fact, I had spoken to Robert one-on-one a few times during the school year and was hoping he would be free to talk, but he never replied to my first message. Since Robert didn't reply, I reached out to Roman. Up to this point, Roman and I had spoken maybe twice since we were children riding our bikes. In the rare conversations we had, I was not the one to start it nor had we never spoken one-on-one before. Both times, I was already in a group conversing with people, and he would just so happen to insert himself. I had no idea if Roman would reply to me when I first messaged him on Facebook. In fact, I was expecting him to ignore me altogether because we did not know each other well, and had rarely spoken to one another. To my luck, he replied back fairly quickly, and we had a fun first conversation. As a result, we would end up messaging each other many more times. We enjoyed talking to each other so much, we began a routine of messaging one another nearly every day at 3pm that summer. Roman was the highlight of my summer that year. Eventually, we realized that we had feelings for one another, and he officially asked me to be his girlfriend. Now, 11 years and many dates, outings, and adventures together, we're finally getting married! We hope that you will honor us with your presence as we take our vows and step into this new chapter of our lives.
