Welcome Party

7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Casual

Join us for a casual welcome party to celebrate our wedding weekend. The welcome party is taking place at the same time as a concert at the same location. Parking will fill up as the concert opener at 7pm. Please plan accordingly and reach out ahead of time with any questions. Refer to this map for visual of parking (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/124NK3q5PLgQVhGpjfP8PzDGOR0f_iNAqewtfp5uZX04/edit?usp=sharing). While the Beech Mountain Tap Room and Grill does have food available for purchase resources will be limited given the concert. We recommend grabbing dinner ahead of time either there or somewhere else.

Flight

Air Travel

Banner Elk, NC is 2.5 hours from the nearest major airport (CLT), 1.25 hours from Tri-cities (TRI) and 1.75 hours from the Asheville Airport (AVL). We recommend renting a vehicle if flying in.

House Or Rental

Lodgings

The Overlook Barn address is 830 Elderberry Ridge Rd, Banner Elk, NC 28604. As this is a tourist area, there are plenty of rentals very close to the venue if you search on Airbnb or VRBO. We recommend a condo or home near the venue. If you have any questions, please reach out to Chesnut or Will and they'd be happy to provide input on the housing options. This listing will help start the search for accommodations near the venue, but by no means covers all the nearby options.

Travel Note

Welcome Party Parking

The address is 1007 Beech Mountain Pkwy #1007, Beech Mountain, NC 28604. Please see above link for a diagram of the location and where to park in relation to the bar. The welcome party is taking place during a concert at the same location. Parking will likely be pretty full as the concert opener starts at 7pm, but we've been told there should still be plenty of space. Carpooling is highly recommended. Please plan accordingly and reach out ahead of time with any questions.

FAQs

The Wedding Website of Chesnut Smith and Will Hagna
Question

Welcome Party Parking

Answer

The Welcome Party is taking place at the Beech Mountain Brewing Co. Taproom and Grill. Limited/spotty service so google before going and refer to map of the parking here (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/124NK3q5PLgQVhGpjfP8PzDGOR0f_iNAqewtfp5uZX04/edit?usp=sharing). There is a concert going on so would expect full parking lots. Will's Pro Tip: Try driving as close to the resort as possible. There is typically extra parking from mountain bikers /others who leave late.

Question

WHAT IS THE DRESS CODE?

Answer

We'd love to see our family and friends get dressed up for our big day! Dress code is cocktail (but keep it fun). Ladies can wear tea length or midi cocktail dresses. Florals and bright colors are encouraged! Gentleman can wear a suit (light or dark). No jeans please. There are grass and gravel areas so please keep this in mind when selecting footwear. Further, this is a higher altitude and can have inclement weather. Check the weather for Beech Mountain, NC ahead of time and pack accordingly.

Question

WHAT TIME SHOULD I ARRIVE FOR THE CEREMONY?

Answer

Please arrive at least 20-30 minutes before 4:50pm, as the Ceremony will begin promptly at the top of the hour. Cars arriving at 4:50 pm will be stopped as the driveway is viewable from the ceremony area.

Question

IS THERE PARKING AVAILABLE AT THE VENUE?

Answer

There is ample parking at the venue! If driving, we encourage you to carpool and have a designated driver.

Question

WILL THE CEREMONY, COCKTAIL HOUR, AND RECEPTION TAKE PLACE INDOORS OR OUTDOORS?

Answer

All three events will be at the same location. Ceremony will take place outside (weather permitting). Cocktail hour and reception will be hosted in areas with indoor and outdoor spaces. There is grass and gravel areas so please keep in mind when selecting shoes. Weather can be inclement in the mountains of North Carolina so please keep in mind when packing!

Question

CAN I BRING MY KIDS?

Answer

We love your kiddos - however, we have decided to limit the number of children at the reception. Invited children will be specifically indicated on your envelope. We appreciate your understanding! We encourage you to use this evening as a fun date night!

Registry

Please do not feel like you have to give us a gift or that it must be something off our registry. Feel free to be creative (like Will has done for many of your weddings...). While gifts of course will be appreciated, please know that your well wishes and/or presence are present enough for us! We are also registered at Zola and Target (scroll to bottom).

Things To Do

The Wedding Website of Chesnut Smith and Will Hagna
We both grew up in Banner Elk, NC. This our favorite place and can't wait to share it with y'all. If you need any recommendations, just holler!
Blue Ridge Parkway

Blue Ridge Parkway

Go take a drive (and a hike) on the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway. Our first date was a wintery hike around the Linn Cove Viaduct, which is featured on our save the dates! Recommend starting at milepost 305 and heading towards Blowing Rock. Moses Cone Manor is another great pit-stop off of the parkway.

Beech Mountain Events

Beech Mountain Events

Check out Beech Mountain's website for events being held there such as music, dinners, and yoga on top of the mountain (highly recommend). Greensky Bluegrass is playing on the 21st.

Grandfather Mountain

Grandfather Mountain

Visit Grandfather Mountain nature preserve and the mile-high swinging bridge. Gets crowded in the summer so plan ahead.

Mountain Biking

Mountain Biking

Lift access at Beech (our fave) and Sugar mountain, but plenty of other great trails in the area (check out trail forks). Rock Knob Mountain Bike Park in Boone is another great non-lift access area. If road biking is your cup of tea, the blue ridge parkway is a great option for long-rides.

Wineries and Breweries

Wineries and Breweries

Lots of options in Banner Elk and neighboring areas! Beech Mountain: 5506 Sky Bar (pictured above with Beech Mtn events), Beech Mountain Brewing Taproom, Atlantic Ale House Banner Elk: Grandfather Winery, Blind Elk, Banner Elk Winery Linville: Old Hampton Store, Linville Falls Winery, Mountain Boomer Boone: Booneshine Brewery, AMB, Peabody's Blowing Rock: The Hellbender, The Speckled Trout, Blowing Rock Brewing Co

Hiking

Hiking

We spend a lot of our free time hiking when we are home. Check out Grandfather Mountain, the blue ridge parkway, Linville Gorge Wilderness area and Roan Mountain for lots of great options from views to water holes. Some easy favorites are Rough Ridge (views), upper falls (for swimming) and Linville Falls (no-swimming). For a bit more of a challenge try out the Profile Trail.

Tweetsie Railroad

Tweetsie Railroad

Great for the kids.
