Some love stories take root in the unlikeliest moments, only to bloom when the time is just right. Ours began in high school in Georgia, introduced by a mutual friend. That first and only encounter left me vowing never to speak to Kentrell again—he came off so uninterested that I was certain we were destined to be strangers. Nearly a decade passed. I had graduated and was living in Georgia, while Kentrell had built his life in Virginia. Our paths might never have crossed again if he hadn’t messaged me on Instagram to congratulate me on completing Delta Airlines Flight Attendant training. It was unexpected, but we struck up a conversation. He suggested that I fly to Virginia for dinner sometime—a bold invitation, yet intriguing. Fate, however, had its own plans. One weekend, Kentrell happened to be in Georgia and asked, last minute, if I wanted to hang out. The spontaneity of it all felt too unplanned, and I declined. That moment might have been the end of our story, but something about us wasn’t ready to let go. A week later, we found ourselves talking again, and this time, I decided to take a chance. I flew to Virginia to visit him, and what started as a single date stretched into a magical two-day adventure. It was the kind of connection I hadn’t expected but instantly knew I couldn’t ignore. Over the next few months, our bond deepened. Kentrell invited me to Cleveland, Ohio, to share pieces of his hometown and life with me. One evening, we took a long walk by the waterfront—something we both loved to do—and as the stars reflected on the water, he asked me to be his girlfriend. That night, June 7th, 2023, became the start of a love story unlike any other. Exactly one year later, life brought us to Cozumel, Mexico. With our first child growing in my belly, Kentrell—true to his straightforward and confident nature—got down on one knee and, rather than asking, told me to marry him. I couldn’t help but laugh, but behind it was the deepest love I’d ever felt. From high school strangers to lifelong partners, our journey proves that timing is everything, and love always finds its way.
