"I met Dave when he woke me up from a deep sleep on the top bunk in our barracks while we were both deployed to Iraq. We are “kinda-sorta” cousins as my Mom says; and, we were introduced through our Uncle Jack. Dave and I became fast friends through the Army, visiting each other at different colleges, and later as roommates in San Diego. He later talked me into a season of wildland firefighting. My parents were thrilled. There’s a lot to love about our beloved Dave, but as others have mentioned, he’s quick-witted, funny, honest, and will always give to ya straight. "I met Diane through a photoshoot I flew down for the day. We became instagram friends & when I decided to fly down to SD on my own, I made a last minute decision to only tell her (since she was the only one I knew that lived there.) She met up with me that night, and we talked about God, his impact, and our whole journey with Him. She became one of my best friends, a mentor, and sister in Christ. In 2023, she flew me back down for my birthday and walked by my side as I chose to be born again as a Christian. "It's been over 20+ years of friendship with this tiny but mighty beautiful woman. Diane and I clicked right from the moment we met back on New Years Day 2002! It was as if we've known each other for years. We have a ton of fun and amazing memories during our college years. From me going to Riverside, to her visiting SD or us making our random trips to Orange County. We played hard in our 20s, got a little more serious in our 30s, and became more intentional in our 40s. I'm definitely going to grow old with this one. She always takes a moment to stop and check-in and just catch up. She has always been present for all the important things that matter. Diane has been a great role model to my daughter Rya as her Ninang (Godmother). She continues to shower her with love and guidance these past 15 years. I admire the bond she has built with her, and my daughter has someone to look up to. Diane has many friends and can make friends wherever she goes as she is a social butterfly. What I love about her the most is that she values deep and intimate connections with people, and I am blessed to be one of them. A special birthday shout-out to Caroline! Thank you for cancelling your Comic-Con tickets to come to the wedding! Wheee!!! I feel special. I know how hard those tickets are to come by. Thank you for being a fierce, loving, and loyal friend to us all. We can't wait to celebrate you too! We love you! Also, here's a picture of us when we were 15. You were my first friend to approach my mom at back to school night and ask her if she was my mom. I think you were my first friend at Eastlake High! This girl right here is one of the smartest girls I know. In college, she started a Japanese club just so she could say she was the club president on her college applications. She recruited people from the math and chess club to join using her friends as bait. She even raised money so they could "go to Japan" but in the end we just threw a bowling ball pizza party for everyone with the money and called it a day at the end of the year. We were in rival sororities and survived college only to become closer. The first friend at every hospital visit my mom and dad had during some rough patches in our lives bringing me food and staying long hours making sure I was ok. Always making us all laugh with her musings and stories... We are all better people having you in our lives. Happy Birthday!!!!
