We first met in 2016. I was hired with the Elko Police Department in July 2016, and Justin was hired with the Elko County District Attorney's Office in November 2016. At some point, maybe in the fall of 2016, I, as a brand-new police officer still in field training, had to testify in court for a preliminary hearing. This happened to be Justin's first preliminary hearing as a brand-new prosecutor. Justin could tell you all the details of when we met and the details of almost every interaction after that, ha! As we progressed in our careers, they very much ran parallel, and we found ourselves working together quite often on various cases throughout the years. In 2019, I became a Detective. Six months later, I worked my first homicide case solo. Coincidently, this homicide case would be the very first homicide case Justin tried as lead chair. We, once again, found ourselves working together. Fast forward to June 2022, while preparing for our second homicide trial together, Justin decided he would go ahead and get COVID...two days before I was set for shoulder surgery. Justin, being the polite gentleman he is, contacted me the day before I left for surgery to let me know he had tested positive and that I could have been exposed, given our close proximity in working together the day before. I had a few choice words when I learned that information and we laugh about it now. Thus, began our love story. Over the next couple of months, we continuously checked on each other through sickness and injury. At only 5 weeks out of surgery, I asked Justin to do the 75 Hard Challenge with me; he did, regrettably. We consider our anniversary July 25, 2022, the day we started the challenge. Throughout this last year, we have packed so much of a relationship into a short amount of time. We have supported each other in our endeavors and banded together in the trenches of parenthood. Justin stepped into the role of Dad to two little boys without missing a beat. He is their light and a wonderful example of a man for them. Through it all, our love for each other has grown tremendously, and we know, without a doubt, that we are meant to spend the rest of our lives together. We cannot wait to start our forever with all of you!
