Travel Note
If you prefer not to drive mountain roads, Home James Transportation offers both shared and private shuttle service from Denver International Airport directly to Devil’s Thumb Ranch and the Winter Park area. Website: homejamestransportation.com Reservations are required in advance. The shuttle picks up several times daily and will bring you right to the Ranch entrance. This is a comfortable and reliable option—perfect if you’d rather sit back and enjoy the mountain views.
Travel Note
For guests who’d like more flexibility during their stay, renting a vehicle at DIA is another great option. Most major rental companies are located on-site, including Alamo, Hertz, Enterprise, and Avis. The drive takes about two hours. From the airport, take I-70 West toward Winter Park, then follow Highway 40 North to Tabernash. Turn onto Ranch Creek Road and follow signs for Devil’s Thumb Ranch. All-wheel or four-wheel drive is recommended during the winter months, as road conditions can change quickly in the mountains.
Travel Note
Devil’s Thumb Ranch sits at an elevation of about 8,500 feet, so the air is thinner than at sea level. Take it easy your first day—stay hydrated and avoid overexertion until you adjust. Even in winter, the sun is strong at this altitude, so sunscreen and sunglasses are helpful year-round. In February, temperatures typically range from the 20s to 30s during the day and drop below freezing at night. Snow is common, and roads are well maintained, but if you’re driving, allow extra time and check conditions before heading up the mountain.
