In the summer of 2008, while living in South Korea, Devon became online friends with Bobbie, who was Candace’s best friend. As their conversations grew, Bobbie introduced Devon to her circle, including Candace. Regular video chats between Devon and Bobbie, often with her friends present, became a staple of their routine. When Devon moved to Houston with his dad, he finally met the group in person and felt immediately welcomed. From the start, Devon sensed something special about Candace. Devon planned a day trip to Star Ranch Golf Course near Austin, TX, and invited Candace to join him, unaware that he had a surprise up his sleeve. On hole 15, with its scenic pond and cascading waterfall between the tee boxes and the green, Devon led Candace to the ladies' tee box.
