On October 29, 2022, Russell was dressed as a hippie and sipping on Miller Lites at The Admiral, a bar in Washington, D.C. He was out celebrating Halloween with his friends, Sam and Skyler, when he spotted a woman dressed as Princess Mia—of The Princess Diaries—across the room. Immediately intrigued, he pointed the woman out to his friends, who encouraged him to approach her. The woman momentarily basked in Russell’s attention, but quickly moved on with her evening—unfortunately, she was seeing someone else. Four months later, Camille was uninspiredly swiping on Hinge, having been burned by the D.C. dating scene, and saw “Anime Guy” (a perhaps undeserved nickname—but 2/3 of his prompts were indeed related to Avatar: The Last Airbender, which she found odd). Shortly thereafter, the two met for drinks at Cotton & Reed rum distillery and immediately bonded over their passion for fancy cocktails, their silly, strange families whom they loved dearly, and their Catholic upbringings. Camille soon found herself charmed by Russell’s wit and his gentle, easygoing nature—and Russell was equally smitten by Camille’s joyful personality, high energy, and openmindedness. It wasn’t until months later that they connected the dots, realizing they had met that fateful Halloweekend in 2022. Three years (and two cats) later, Sam and Skyler accompanied Camille and Russell on what was supposed to be a “double date” hike at Roosevelt Island, one of Camille’s favorite spots in D.C. When Russell proposed, Camille was equal parts giddy and shocked, even though she knew it was coming. The two of them celebrated over sushi and champagne that night, both proclaiming it the best day of their lives.
