From Bible Study to "I Do"

Camille and I first met when we both attended a small Bible study group at Common Goods, one of our favorite coffee shops in Ruston. I remember as soon as she walked in, for some reason, I was really hoping she was there for the same Bible study. We met almost every Wednesday after that, and each time we talked a little more, ultimately leading to a great friendship rooted in faith. That changed the weekend of June 10th. A friend of ours from that same Bible study was getting married in Lafayette, and Camille suggested we ride down together. I was more than happy to agree. I was a little nervous, but our three-hour drive was effortless—filled with meaningful conversation that felt different, as if we were crossing into something new. When we arrived, I dropped her off at Spencer’s and headed to Baton Rouge to stay with Alex and Alexis. As soon as I walked in, I got grilled: “Who is this girl?” “Does this mean something?” “Is she attractive?” I tried to change the subject—but the next morning, when I saw her again, I had my answer: yes, she is absolutely stunning. For the next part of our story, a little background is required. All my life, one of my favorite things about any church I’ve attended is the stained glass. Along with that, I’ve always imagined my future wife and I kneeling together in the pew at Mass. There’s something powerful about that moment of surrender and reverence, and I’ve always known I wanted to share it with the person I love. As I said before, we squeezed into a pew, knelt down, and began praying. I remember asking God if the feelings I was having were real, and if I needed to pursue her, He would show me a sign. I finished praying, looked over, and there Camille was—kneeling beside me, just like I had always imagined, surrounded by the glow of sunlight pouring through the stained glass. It felt like God was saying, “Do you need a bigger sign than this?” Right then, I knew. But I still wondered if she felt the same way. That night at Spencer’s, some people were over—including Caroline, now my future sister-in-law. The night had gone great, but I wasn’t sure if I was reading too much into things. Then, as Caroline left, she smiled and said, “It was so nice to finally meet you.” Finally? So she’d been talking about me? Thanks, Caroline. The following week, we went on our first date. And the rest is history.
