Four and a half years ago, Britt expanded her dating radius after not having much luck locally. Around the same time, Scott decided to give dating apps another try. Their timing was perfect: they matched on Bumble, the app where women make the first move. Britt did exactly that, opening with a question that would quietly change everything: “Hi Scott. Would you like a dad joke or a bad pickup line?” After complimenting Britt’s hair, Scott eagerly asked for both. The dad joke: Who won the skeleton beauty pageant? No body. The pickup line: Are you Wi-Fi? Because I’m totally feeling a connection. It was dorky. It worked. They kept messaging on Bumble. Then texting. Then talking. After a few days of nonstop conversation, they decided to meet about halfway between their two cities for a festive fall date at the Louisburg Cider Mill. The date stretched on for hours as the two bonded over turkey legs, hard cider, a corn maze, and a hayride. "Scott was visibly nervous—but relaxed as the conversation flowed," Britt said. "I liked that he was tall, kind, and made me feel like I could completely be my authentic self." Scott liked…well, everything. "I remember thinking that someone so cool and beautiful couldn't be real and single and here in person on a date with me," he said. A few weeks in, Scott deleted his dating apps and told Britt he only wanted to be with her. Britt admits it took her a little longer as it all felt very fast and she wasn’t used to being chosen so clearly. But not long after, she was all in. They made long distance work by alternating weekends between Kansas City and Pittsburg, juggling opposite work schedules, long drives, and video calls. A year and a half later, Scott packed up his life and moved to Kansas City—proving that sometimes love is worth the leap. Now, after one very good algorithm, a dad joke, a bad pickup line, and countless miles, Britt and Scott are making it official and can’t wait to celebrate with you.
