At the end of our sophomore year of high school, we met through mutual friends at our district choir festival. Kaden introduced himself to me as Shaun, and I continued to call him this for most of a year into our friendship before truly finding out his name. Throughout high school Kaden and I grew our friendship through FFA. Come Senior year of high school, I asked Kaden to prom just to find out he was going to ask me a week later at our first FFA competition of the winter events. We started talking more as prom grew closer and I will never forget the butterflies I got when I sent him a picture of my prom dress and he said "I have the most beautiful prom date". At Prom we won the 'how well do you know your date' competition and scored a free bowling date. It took a while for our schedules to line up but we finally got to go on our first date in the middle of the summer, bowling and Apple bees. Throughout the summer we hung out at the lake and continued to text each other every day. In the middle of July, I was building up the courage to tell him I had the biggest crush on him but I chickened out. A few weeks later he asked me to go to the state fair with his family and a group of his friends. I never thought I would get to go on this 5 day adventure, but God must have whispered in my parents ear that it would be the start of the best thing I could have ever prayed for. Kaden had a plan to ask me to be his girlfriend on the top of the Ferris wheel, some miscommunication happened with telling his friends he wanted to ride with me alone, so the whole crew climbed on into the ride. I of course was oblivious but could tell Kaden was unhappy. In his second attempt, Kaden and I were walking around the campground talking and I tripped in a hole, of course, but how perfect. It gave my future prince charming the perfect opportunity to ask me if I was ok and help me up. In this moment he got the courage to ask me his big question. He needed a little help along the way, and it went a little like this. "So Brenna we've been hanging out for quite a while" *silence* "and ya know"... at this point I knew what he was trying to ask but I couldn't make it easy for him, so in response I said "Go ahead, you have to say it" he then proceeds to ask me to be his girlfriend!! Not long after, we went our separate ways for school but always made the time to be there for each other whether it was meeting in the middle, late night phone calls, or sending the occasional letter back and forth. Oct 26. 2024 Kaden proposed out on our family friends farm. We had planned on going out to our favorite place for supper when he told me the sheep got out and we had to go fix that first. I, of course disappointed, walked out to the pasture with him as the sun was setting looking for these darn sheep and where the gait might be open. As I turn around, there's Kaden on one knee. After I said YESSSS, Kelly and Kortney jumped out of the bushes, Kelly wearing a Gilly suite recording the whole thing. We drove back to town for what Kaden said was a small taco supper to find the house full of both our families and friends ready to celebrate the beginning of forever with us.
