The start of forever, captured in a moment.

How We Met, Her SideHow We Met, Her Side

I'll tell my side first before he tells a tale. When I first met Kris, I had no thought or idea of a future with him or anyone at this time. I was in a space of healing and rebuilding from the inside out, and my eyes were fixed on Jesus. Kris and I were on the praise team together, and I thought he was just a joyous person to be around; always mild-mannered with a bright smile. Then came October 28th. We were at Bible Study, and we’d just finished praise and worship. I guess he was tired, and he decided to lie down near me. I glanced at him, and it was that moment when something switched on for me. But hilariously, I thought, "ew...what is this?" I can laugh about it now because I now know what was happening. Fast forward to October 30th. I was rushing out of our service to head to another church, and realized I’d left my phone. I was able to grab it, and we met up with each other on my way out. Now, even though my internal switch was flipped, I was not in expectation of what was to come because I'd calculated my single season as being longer than it turned out to be. But, here comes Kris, "Are you single?" Time froze. My mind tried to rationalize and fight to ruin the moment. But love had awakened in me. Before I knew it, our paths crossing caused our destinies to join, and it's been an invigorating ride ever since.

How We Met, His SideHow We Met, His Side

From the moment I first saw Coriana and our eyes met, I knew she wanted me. Okay—maybe she was looking around the room and happened to glance in my direction… but hey, a man’s gotta believe in something. Whether it was divine revelation or just me hyping myself up, it gave me the boost I needed to keep showing up with some confidence (and a fresh haircut). We sang together on the praise team at church, and yes—her voice was stunning. But it wasn’t just about the vocals. It was her. The way she carried herself—so much grace, joy, and this calm strength that made it hard to focus on anything else. I was like, Lord, I don’t know what You’re doing here, but I’m paying attention. In April of 2022, I saw her sing at a concert, and let me tell you, her voice had my full attention. It was at that moment that I told myself, “Yup. That’s my wife.” No lightning from heaven, no choir of angels descending (unless you count her vocals), but it was one of those moments that just hit different. From that night, I took it to the Lord in prayer, seeking His guidance and asking for clarity and the right moment to reveal what was on my heart. I wanted to be sure this was more than emotion; I wanted confirmation that it was purpose. It was Sunday, October 30, 2022. Coriana had left church a little early but realized she’d forgotten her phone, so she had to turn around and come back to get it. Call it coincidence, but I call it divine timing. To grab her phone, she had to walk right past me—and the moment I saw her, I just knew. My heart was racing, palms getting a little sweaty (don’t judge me), but I couldn’t let the moment slip away. I followed her outside, trying my best to play it cool while every nerve in my body screamed, “Don’t mess this up!” I took a deep breath and asked, “Coriana, are you single?” She smiled and said, “The Lord told me you were going to ask me that.” And the rest? Well, that’s history.
