A mutual friend introduced us during the first week of undergrad- over 10 years ago! We ran in the same circles all throughout college and started becoming closer during grad school. Bianca thought Chaisten was just being really friendly when he asked her to get dinner with him the night before a hike together, so she said yes! ...and invited her best friend along. She even made sure to be extra friendly back to him and let him take her bed while he slept on her couch, since he was coming in from out of town. The next day, halfway through the hike, Chaisten confessed that he had actually meant to ask Bianca out to dinner as more than friends. Luckily, her feelings for him had been growing all along, or that would have been a long walk back to the car... :)
Bianca originally wanted to take Chaisten's last name, but she also wanted to keep her Latino heritage alive with a Hispanic surname. Unfortunately, the hyphenated name "Garza-Weigel" sounds like a weird spell you cast on your enemies. Instead, we decided to translate the German word "Weigel," which loosely means "fighter," into Spanish. Thus, "Guerrero" was born, and Chaisten also decided to join in on the etymological fun by taking this name, too.
Bianca and Chaisten relocated from Yakima, WA, to the Skagit Valley in June of 2025. Her new job at the time wasn't going to offer benefits, and we had already been torn between eloping and having a bigger wedding, so it felt more than right for us to get married legally while planning for a bigger party later down the road. We are so excited to finally celebrate our love in front of all our friends and family!
In December 2024, Chaisten planned a cabin weekend for Bianca and our friends, where he hosted an entire escape room that he designed himself. He set up the final puzzle in Leavenworth, a picturesque town about an hour from our cabin. He had planned to wait for Bianca there so she could solve the final puzzle and answer the Big Question. As it turns out, Leavenworth is NOT the place to drive through if you are on any sort of timeline, because traffic is horrendous during Christmastime. A good hour after our designated meetup time, with waning daylight, ice-covered roads, and a women's size XS coat that Bianca lent him, a shivering Chaisten watched Bianca guess the code to the briefcase that contained the ring. "Multiply the numbers of all the moons on all the planets," had been his clue. Chaisten's fingers turned white while Bianca, who kicked herself for not paying more attention in science class, fumbled with random numbers. Finally, Bianca’s Hail Mary guess of 000 opened the case, and, well, that's how we got here today!
