Summer 1992 I was just hanging out; sitting on the hood of my car, in Brentwood, TN in (the Burger King parking lot, it’s what the cool kids did back then). Ryder was in line at Turtles records to purchase concert tickets to see Clint Black, (a good 100 yards away)… He turns and asks his friend in line, “Who’s the brunette in the denim shorts on the hood of that Toyota”? To which friend replied “ohhh That’s just Beth Brazil, why?”…. Ryder replies, “ I’m gonna get her number and ask her out”…. And that he did! We dated all of 1992 through time for him to leave for UT Knoxville in the fall of 93’. We dated on and off “long distance” but it ended choosing different paths. Fast forward to August 2021’… Ryder, as a proud member of AA and recovery reached out to make “Amends” (step #9 of the 12 step program) to me for the breakup, pain, and true suffering I went through, come to find out, he suffered awhile too. Myself being a proud member of Al-Anon graciously accepted his amends. We put everything in God’s hands and his perfect timing, and here we are…. As Ryder says in his proposal to me, “ I proposed to you 30 years ago, and I couldn’t back it up then, but I can now, will you spend the rest of your life with me”? …. And well Of course I said YES!
