Three Peaks is one of our favorite places to hike with the dogs and have a picnic in the pavilion. Three Peaks Recreation area has more than 6,000 acres of terrain where visitors can enjoy outdoor activities like mountain biking, hiking, disc golf, and ATV riding. It even has RC car track and model plane airfield. There are plenty of camping spots tucked away, too!

Getting to know the history of Cedar City and the state of Utah can be done at the Frontier Homestead Museum in Cedar City. Visitors learn about the development of Utah’s Iron County while exploring historic buildings, engaging in hands-on activities such as gold mining. We like to bring our younger visitors here!
“All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players.” Sound familiar? If you are a Shakespeare fan it could, and you might be interested in The Shakespeare Festival which presented its first season in 1962. There are several plays to take in June through October in Cedar City.
Feeling a little fishy? There are plenty of places to fish around here. The Lake at the Hills is located right in Cedar City. In addition to fishing, the lake has a nice beach and picnic areas to enjoy. Other favorite fishing holes are Yankee Meadows and the pond in Brian Head. Fishing licenses can be purchased online or at Sportsman’s in Cedar City.
Go take a hike! If you want to, of course! The Hidden Haven trail is located less than 10 minutes from Parowan. It is a moderate 1.4-mile out-and-back trail near Brian Head. At the end of this trail is a beautiful waterfall. In winter, the waterfall is frozen!
Want to take it a little higher? Brian Head is about a thirteen-mile drive from Parowan. We like to think of it as our “Idyllwild from Hemet” town. It is a mountain village with a pond that Marcus and Robert like to fish, hikes and walking paths to travel, and a few great shops and restaurants. Be warned, the air is a little thinner in Brian Head. The base elevation is 9,800 ft with an elevation at the peak of 11,300 ft.
Cedar Breaks National Monument. We like to call it a mini–Grand Canyon right in our own backyard. It is about four miles up the road from Brian Head. The wildflowers in summer have been spectacular! It is also a great place for stargazing. Cedar Breaks sits at over 10,000 feet and looks down into a half-mile deep geologic amphitheater. Located approximately 20 miles from Parowan.
Dinosaurs Tracks and Petroglyphs, oh my! Another favorite area we love is Parowan Gap. Here you can search for dinosaur tracks and view petroglyphs. It is about 17 minutes from Parowan.
Farmers markets are a big thing around here. There is one right in Cedar City each Saturday from 9am-1pm. You can find lots of treasures from fresh fruits and veggies, freeze dried candy, to fresh baked breads just to name a few!
Looking to venture out a little further? Zion National Park is about 40 minutes away. It does get busy in summer months.
Looking for local maps or a nice gift shop for souvenirs? The Cedar City Visitor Center has what you are looking for! They also have great historical displays, too! Hours of Operation: Monday - Friday 8:30 am - 5:00 pm & Saturday 9:00 am - 2:00 pm
Staying in Utah a little longer? We love the small town feel of the parades and festivities for Fourth of July in Parowan and Cedar City. Don’t be too shocked when you see helicopters flying down Main Street to start the parades! Fireworks are held at the Cedar City Municipal Airport in Cedar City and end with a “bang!” They use solid rocket fuel to light up the sky for their grand finale!
