Ashli went on a girls trip to Charleston, South Carolina. At the time, Cayden was working on his Bachelor's Degree and playing football for Charleston Southern University. In what could be considered perfect timing, Ashli and Cayden ended up at the same bar on King Street. After trading glances for an hour, Ashli finally made the first move and Cayden offered to buy her a drink. They then stood at the bar for the next hour talking with each of their friends occasionally checking on them. They exchanged numbers and Cayden joined them at the beach the following day. The couple would then spend the next year and a half, committed to a long distance relationship.
Long distance was hard, yet Cayden and Ashli were deeply committed to making it work. They each took turns flying to see one another and spent countless hours on FaceTime. Ashli enjoyed going to watch Cayden's games most of all. Because they did not get to see each other often, they were able to appreciate when they could even more. After a year and half apart, Cayden moved to Oklahoma and they grew even closer.
Ashli refers to the proposal as, "perfect." However, Cayden is not the best secret keeper and has never been the person to plan anything out. So when he asked her out to dinner a week in advance, she grew suspicious. Cayden is very much an introvert and Ashli had told him she would be mortified with a public proposal. They had dinner at Ashli's favorite restaurant and then drove home. As soon as the couple pulled up to their house, Cayden rushed up to the house and slammed the door in Ashli's face. She could not be mad for long, because when she opened the door she was met with the most beautiful display. The lights off, candles lit everywhere, Cayden down on one knee, and "Will you marry me?" behind him. It was truly everything she had dreamed of.
